Can someone tell me if it would be worth getting an Intel Pentium 4 550 w/ HT and a Intel Desktop Board BOXD915PBLL, I'm looking to upgrade, possible build a new computer all together, I will mainly be using the machine for gaming, and nothing else... thanks in advance, you guys are great here

Click the CPU/chipset tab at the top of the page and read an article or two.

This year, the AMD Athlon A64 chips are cheaper, faster in games, and even run cooler -- there is absolutely no good reason to buy an intel CPU for gaming.

I say this typing on my P4 3.2C, which I bought before intel fell on their face with the Prescott design while AMD kept improving their chips.

For suggested parts, the system thread

I understand that AMD is much better, but I have the opportunity to get these two items, PLUS a legal copy of WinXP Pro, for 200 dollars, does that change things?

I was guessing you were taking advantage of intel's program for retail employees, since that's the common way to get these parts legally for $300 under Newegg's price.

A P4 3.4E isn't an awful CPU, it's just a space heater that's only about as fast as an A64 3000+ in games. Since you're getiing it almost free, have yourself a toasty Xmas.
