Mobo/CPU Combo?

MY dad needs a cpu/proccesor. The motherboard needs to support sdram though. Needs AMD processor also. Could yall give me some suggestions of where i could find something like this? Thanks

Grab yourself an ECS K7S5Apro while stocks last. This is the usual suspect for using SDR RAM with an Athlon processor.
Please mind that you need to have PC133 SDRAM that actually lives up to this specification (because the Athlon chipset will push it a little harder than the old system it's coming from), and that this circumstance limits you to processors that have 133 MHz bus ("FSB266"), no higher than Athlon XP 2400+.

Also mind an adequate power supply. Whatever you pull from an old PIII or K6 system very probably won't do.

No way you can add a stick of 256MB or 512 MB PC2700 to that mobo/CPU combo? Then you would not be limited to boards that have PC133 slots. What's the budget?

Alright I did a little research and came up with this:

Jeez ... 100 bucks also buys you something much less stoneage that still lets you use SDR RAM.

newegg: K7S5Apro retail $42, Duron 1600 $39. They carry only the "TC" version of the fan I recommend, the Arctic CopperSilent 2, which is $13. The non-TC version can be had for as low as $7 elsewhere. So you total at $90 to $95. Add $4 more to have a Duron 1800.

That combo will run circles around a KT133 chipset and original Athlon 1333 combination.

Don't know if you have a Fry's Electronics nearby but they sell combos for very cheap all the time. About three weeks ago I picked up a Barton 2600+ and ECS N2U400-A (Nforce2) for $94.99.
