Mobo and SLI question

Hey,

I`m having some problems choosing the right components for my new system. What I`ll be using it for is 3D professional work such as rendering for ex.
I`ll be using a Q6600 with 4GB mem + 2x Gigabyte 9600GT in SLI mode. Now, my question is..if I buy an ASUS board for the two GB video cards, will I be loosing performance compared to buying a GB mobo instead? So..GB mobo + GB SLI = more performance than ASUS mobo + GB SLI? Wow..lol..that has to make sense 🙂 .
I`d like to buy GB 9600GT`s because those are cheaper compared to the ASUS ones. Or you could even suggest a good GB mobo for like 130$ (cant afford a better one). I`ve picked out the Gigabyte N650SLI-DS4L, but I`ve read that people are having some pretty serious performance problems compared to other mobos withe pretty much the same system. I had GB mobos in the past and they were a nightmare..cant understand why. So, I really hope you guys could help me out here.
Thanks v much!

Brand loyalty shouldn't matter at all for videocard/motherboard performance with the same card models. At least, I've never heard of it mattering.

I buy EVGA parts because I expect things to break. And I'm paying not so much for the part itself but the service I will get once it craps out.

Hmm..well I also dont believe in brand loyalty regarding VGA cards and mobos, although I heard the opposite from here and there...does anyone have experience with this..?

So, can you guys pls suggest a motherboard for Q6600 and 9600GT SLI? Price should be max 150$.
Thank you
