Hi,

What are the best mobos AM2+ with the 780G chipset?

I want to upgrade with a graphics card (HD4800 series) in the furute.

If it´s not asking too much i´d like a recommendation for the memories (DDR2 800 or DDR2 1066 and the brands)

Also, do you think Samsung Spinpoint F1 500Gb is a good HD?

Asus is releasing soon new 780G mobos rated to handle 140 watts cpu's, in theory, that would be good - but this is new and no reviews yet. Top Phenom is 9950 BlackEdition rated at 125 watts - but oclox wattage??? 140 watts gives a cushion??? not tested.
NextGen Phenom - DENEB sposed to be 140 W.

ATI 48XX is good - and I have not seen it in a test report on 780G yet.

Memory - /800 is max for am2 cpu (dual core) and can also be used with am2+ (phenom)
and /1066 is only available iff you have an am2+ cpu (phenom)
I cannot recommend a brand. You do want dual channel.

HDD - to me, hdd is not really a performance item - 500G is best bang for the buck - i would typically go with WD or Seagate and prime consideration would be $$$ So samsung - why not.

Power supply is important.

I have an Asus M3A78-EM - one of their new 780G boards advertised to have 140W CPU support. I can say it's an excellent board so far, but I'm using it in my HTPC with a low power Athlon X2 and so I'm not stressing it very much.

That said, if you're looking for a full ATX board there's the Asus M3A78 Pro which may be available in most places by now.

I don't know about an exact date for 790GX / SB750 but I remember reading that it was all planned for early August a while back, so it's possible there will be many more options soon.

Thanks guys.

I think I´ll go with the Asus M3A78 Pro and a X2 5000.
In the future i´ll upgrade to a Deneb so maybe it´s better if i buy DDR2 1066.

This GIGABYTE GA-MA78GPM-DS2H looks pretty good.

According to the literature, ddr2 800 is supported by am2 cpu`s and ddr2 1066 is supported by am2+ cpu`s.

I have a 500gb samsung and have been satisfied with it - but would go with the wd 640gb or any of the 7200rpm 1tb drives for non-htpc use now. Saving $20-50 here is not economical.

I got the Gigabyte S2H mobo and am very happy with it. The plethora of connection option on the back panel include firewire and esata so I see it as a very complete mobo.
