Mobility x1400 Overclocking

Hey guys, I have a laptop with a moblity x1400 and from what i've gathered it is a dedicated card. When I run ati tool the default core and memory settings are both 89.95 MHz, but below in the core and memory settings I read 1439.20 core, and 1304.28 memory. I didn't want to mess around with the settings without understanding why the core and memory settings are what they are. If anyone knows that this cannot be done, or knows that it can be done, I would love to hear from you!

I don't know anything about OC'ing graphics cards, especially in a laptop, but I'll tell you what I know. The main disadvantages of dedicated cards (and yes yours is a dedicated card) are heat and power draw. The 90mhz readings you got are very likely real, they're known as 2D clocks, the thing slows itself way down to save power when it's idle, even desktop cards do this. The higher numbers are a little suspect though, the memory looks fairly reasonable, but there's no cards in existence that run a 1.4Ghz clock (nVidia's cards' shaders run in that ballpark, but the core itself doesn't).

Before trying to OC, you should see if it's even do-able; find out if any higher-performance cards are sold with your model of laptop, if so the thing's cooling system has some headroom, otherwise you may be out of luck.

Overclocking anything in laptops has never been recommended and is a hugely very bad naughty foolish idea. But hey, it's your $600 + at risk and not mine so I say clock the shit outta that lappy and tell me when it goes *POOF* 😀 That way I know what not to do with my lappy 😉


If u wanna OC you get a desktop, not a laptop. Even a Dell E521/C521 will OC insanely compared to about any laptop 🙂
