Mobility Radeon 9600

Ok Well I just purchased the thinkpad T42 and I was pretty impressed by the performance it showed me in 3D mark 2001 and 03 but wanted to raise the score a little more and wondered if anyone had information about the whole Mobility Radeon 9700 is simply an OC'ed Mobility Radeon 9600. I have the latest OMEGA drivers installed but I'm a little sketchy on the whole running it at 9700 speeds. All this information is very unclear and what I had read was very vague, if possible please clarify this up for me.
Thanks.

What exactly are you asking? Do you need to know what the default speeds of the Mobility 9700, or if it's safe to run your 9600 at 9700 speeds? FWIW, I run the Mobility 9600 in my laptop at 420MHz core 220MHz (440 DDR) memory.

No, they are not completely identical. There are a few minor differences as far as I can see.
Have access to 2 different laptops, one with the mobility 9600 and another with the 9700. The only functional differences (apart from speed obviously) is that the 9600 doesn't seem to support PowerPlay (ie. dynamically speeding up and slowing down).

As far as I know, apart from this (and probably some other minor trivial differences) the cores in terms of rendering are pretty much identical.

MDE yea if you could, please evaluate more on what you did to achieve those speeds and if you can, please tell me what the default speeds/Running the Mobility 9600 at 9700 speeds should be fine. I don't know the speeds of the mobility radeon 9700 and also wondered if the omega drivers that allow overclocking would keep the video card at that speed if it were to crash just wondering if they are simply soft mods or not. Agian if I were Overclocking my desktop video card, I wouldn't be asking so many questions because overheating is less of an issue. Also BTW my laptop runs very cool/quiet compared to my Vaio PCG F480.

That is quite strange. Neither the drivers supplied with the laptop with the mobility 9600 nor Omega drivers allow PowerPlay to be used, whereas I know that the Omega drivers on the 9700 allow PowerPlay to be controlled as does the drivers supplied for the mobility 9700.

Is it locked out on this machine or is control of it hidden away in the 9600 vs 9700?

Stange, I only noticed the powerplay options though when I installed the omega drivers. Try installing a new version but first to completely remove the old one. If it still doesn't work, then it must be a hardware issue.

Nope, even after a completely fresh windows installation and Omega drivers, still no PowerPlay control tab for the 9600 mobility. Not too bothered to be honest, 3DMark'ed it against the mobility 9700 and it scores about the right amount less and I would only end up setting PowerPlay to mainly performance settings.
Still, grrrrr none the less.
