Mobile XP overheating woes

So I recently got my 35 watt 2400+ from newegg, and of course decided to see how far I could go with it. System:

NF7-S rev 2.0
1 Gigabyte pc3200 corsair value RAM
Athlon mobile xp 2400+ (35 watt version)
Antec 350 watt PSU with 2 fans
AX-7 HSF with an 80mm high performance panaflo fan
4 80mm case fans (2 intake 2 exhaust)

Now I'm currently running the chip at 12x200 = 2.4 GHz, but the load temperature is making me uncomfortable... 52-53 degrees. Now, before you say anything, I recently applied a new layer of arctic silver 5, I know the heatsink is mounted properly, and I know heat is being transferred well because of how damn hot the heatsink gets.

One thing that does concern me, however, is my psu. I believe I have my vcore set to 1.7 right now (maybe even 1.725) but motherboard monitor is displaying anywhere between 1.61 and 1.65 at load (it varies). Here are some other numbers from motherboard monitor:

Core1 (vdimm): 2.72 (set to 2.7 in BIOS)
+3.3 : 3.23
+5.00 : 4.87
+12.00 : 11.61
-12.00 : -12.60
-5.00 : -4.99

All these numbers were taken with prime95 running in the background.

Anyone have any ideas?

I get the same exact problem with my mobile xp-m 2200+ (35w... same exact core as the 2400+). I installed a newer "better" h/s than my old one (alx-800 vs. thermaltake volcano 9) and I only have the xp-m at 1.63 ghz which is the default. but for some reason it's showing that the xp-m is running hotter than my 1.7ghz overclocked palomino. wtf is going on?

Mobile xp's run a little cooler at the stock speed only. Once you raise the voltage, they're just as warm as regular xp's. Temps in the low 50's are no problem.

Yeah but the problem is my mobile xp is RUNNING at stock and it's still hitting the low 50's. I'd understand if I was running it at 2.4ghz but it's running at 1.67ghz and temp is high. that shouldn't happen. especially with the money I shelled out for the new heatsink. Does case fans matter? I got a new case but I didn't install the case fans. Right now I just have the case running completely open. I don't think case fans would make much difference in this situation

Connoisseur,
these temps are a tad high for stock speed. What fan are you using on your heatsink?

Temps in the 50s are no problem. AMD's official maximum temp for mobiles is 90-95C (depending on model). Just try to keep your temps below 70C and you will be fine.

50C's is nothing.

and also considering the fact that abit boards read temps high... yeah... you're perfectly fine.

For my fan i'm using a generic 3500 rpm fan. On my thermaltake volcano 9 and my 1.7ghz AROIA this same fan gave me cpu temps of ~44C-46C load regardless of outside temp (I originally had the smartfan II on the HS but the potentiometer on it had a loose connection so if I even accidentally tapped it, the fan would go OFF). I'm now using a Thermalright ALX-800 which, according to many review sites is supposed to be the best HS they've tested. I know 50C won't kill my system or anything but considering the setup, I'd expect mid to high 30's on idle using stock settings. Maybe if I had this running at 2.4ghz, I wouldn't bat an eye at the temp but this is ridiculous.

Your rails seem a bit off. It's your 12v rail that is worrying me. I never go more than 0.08 out of range under full load. You're 0.40 out of range. Might be a sign that you're going to need a stronger 12v rail. I never understood what the negative volt rails were for. Could someone explain that to me? I know that MBM and Speedfan have an issue with Epox and reading incorrect voltages, because on all three 8rda3 boards I had and the two my friends had, our +3.3v line instead shows our memory voltages. Our -12 is something like -7v, our -5 is like -3.85v, etc. It's borked. I think it's something to do with Epox's sensoring, because in CPU-Z, where it is supposed to report CPU voltage, it shows our chipset voltage instead. I don't know if others have seen/had this problem, but this has been prevalent on all Epox boards I've come into contact with, yet it hasn't been a problem.

52-53 degrees.

Who cares? Chips can take over 100C you have a long way to go.;)

Seriously, mobos are extremly inaccurate, diodes are in different poisitions on everyone of them.. same mobo can be 10C off. There are so many reasons this should'nt concern you. Set shutdown temp in bios to 90C and never look a it again.

Heh I figured out why my cpu was overheating. When I removed the heatsink, somehow only half of the HS was contacting the core. Not sure how that happened but when I put it back on properly temps dropped to about 45C idle and around 52-53C load. Still trying to overclock with the board tho. Refuses to hit 200mhz. maybe I can convince it to go to 199 ;)
