Mobile Racks for HDD?

When I buy a mobile rack for a backup HDD, do I need to buy the tray? Or are the additional trays for when you will have more than one removable drive?
 
A "mobile rack for a backup HDD"... ie, a hot-swap external drive enclosure? They usually come with at least one tray... but it should tell you in the description of the item, or you can check the manufacturer's website.
