Mobile Purchases You Regret?

I honestly haven't regretted any of the mobile purchases I've made. I usually spent egads amount of time researching my purchases though. The only complaint I could have is the MPx220 was terrible telephony volume for the person on the other end.


At the time, each phone served their purpose:

1. Nokia 6110 (1998)
2. Motorola MPx220 (2004)
3. Nokia E71 (2008)
4. Nokia N8 (2011)

It is interesting to see how my ownership durations have gradually reduced, coinciding with how the technology has been rapidly advancing.

Thinking it over I realize that while I've liked some devices a lot more than others, I've learned something from every smart gadget I've owned. Loved my Nook color, hours & hours of learning about android, obtaining root, exploring custom roms. Same goes for the rest of the parade of phones, tablets that have marched through here.

The device I owned for the shortest period of time? The HP Touchpad. I wanted so badly to love this device but it was just too freaking HEAVY & it was a fingerprint magnet! Thankfully I got it at the firesale price & was able to sell it to a person who was thrilled to get it.

But seriously, I, too, bought the HP Touchpad at the fire price. It was a great deal, sure, but I ended up selling mine as I had 2 other tablets to play with and really didn't need the Touchpad.

LOL, No, I sold the device to an RN friend of mine, she's got 7 kids & was thrilled to snag it at the fire sale price.

I regret going gun ho with new mobile devices I end up not liking. I bought a WM 6 devices years ago and dropped like $200 in apps and ended up hating the phone. I bought 4 Android devices when I was in my "f*ck Apple, stick it to em!" phase and spend Jebus I don't even know but at least $300 on apps. Now I'll never touch either platform again and have all that $$$ invested in an ecosystem that's now worthless to me.

Every Motorola beyond the V60 series. The worst ever was the Verizon RAZR. F--k them for a long time after they stuck me with that POS.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon hasn't been all that impressive to me, (nor has any Samsung phone on any network). Aside from VZW not passing along the OS updates over the air, I find the VZW GNex's reception and connection stability to be lacking, and regardless of specs, the camera seems sub-par. Plus, the 'ish be flimsy, yo!

The HTC G2 on T-Mobile was a disappointment, but that was because T-Mobile's data network was deficient, not because the hardware was bad. The network just dropped to useless speed if I drove 25 minutes in any direction from home. VZW has me covered statewide even in some real "middle of nowhere" places. I guess that's why Verizon says "there's a map for that!"

16GB iphone 4S.

I'm constantly running out of space on this thing, and I still have ~1.5 years left on contract. In hindsight, I should have gone with the 32GB version at a minimum.

C'mon, iPhones are easy to resell. Put it on Swappa or eBay or whatever and pick up something with storage space - also secondhand, if you want to keep your net cost low/zero.

Ok, I updated my OP and took off the iPad 2. Thanks to the advice of those in this thread this weekend I updated it to 6.1, re-jailbroke it and got XBMC running, and got back an obscene amount of space on it- she has more than 5 gigs free now.

I have to admit it runs very well on 6.1, enough that she seemed shocked at the post-update experience. The fact that Apple still sells this device for $100 less then I bought hers two years later combined with the fact that it probably won't be left behind for a while software-wise probably makes the iPad 2 the best mobile purchase I have ever made. It will be the only device I bought in 2011 that we will still use in 2014...

I bought into the Droid Eris hype. Holy god was that phone awful.

Then I bought into the original Droid. That one sucked too, but was manageable.

And I've bought about 50 apps that I never use any more. Mostly random launchers and stuff I got on sale, most of which the developers just stopped updating.

Best: Evo 4G on launch day: my first android device and it got me hooked.
Worst: SGSII: Should have gone straight for the GNexus, but I bought this instead. Good as it was, much as I loved it, I ended up buying the GNex anyway when JB came out (and since traded the GNex for an N4 which is even bettererer).

If not, is it still transferable and useable (thus sell-able) to another person provided they use it on AT&T's network?

Also, if I were to get an iphone 5 (or an android phone), would I need a different size sim card, and would AT&T charge for this?

Yes, anyone on AT&T can use the phone even if you're under contract. I believe the iPhone 4s uses micro SIM, which is pretty standard these days.

(1) Dunno. Call CS and ask them. They'll definitely do it if you're traveling abroad or something.

(2) Yes, absolutely. Unlock is unnecessary for AT&T or AT&T-flavor Straight Talk.

(3) Current androids (Galaxy S3, Note 2, One X+ all have big storage) all use the same micro-SIM as the 4S. The i5 uses a nano-SIM, but you can either get a cutter off Amazon to keep your old SIM or just go to an AT&T store for a SIM swap. Some stores will try to charge, others won't.

came here to post this one. My wife had one... 5 minutes with it and you'd want to fling it against a wall.

The thing would literally shut off in the middle of a phone call. And took about 4-5 mins to power back on. What a piece of shit

I loved the original Palm Pre...except for the absolutely horrific battery life. I realize poor battery life has become the norm these days, but even by today's standards, it was bad.
