Ok guys... I was formerly on sprint... now switched over to straight talk with my htc one x from at&t... I've found out that the reception/talk isn't that great with straight talk so I'm thinking about going contract again with one of the big 4 carriers.

Verizon seems to have share everything plans only... priced to $110 pretax.
ATT has individual plans priced to $90 with 3GB data and unlimited text.
Sprint is $80 with unlimited everything and shitty 3g service.
Tmobile is $70-80 with unlimited data...

What's the best and most cost effective carrier for you guys? Straight talk was great for $45... but with the crappy talk quality I don't mind paying extra to be able to hear people and get reception when I need it most.

I'm located in SOCAL.

Sprint has LTE working around me finally. So I'd go with Sprint.
Cheap. good phones and unlimited.

Did Sprint ever fix their dropped calls issue? I left them back in 2002 because of this and never looked back lol. Now I'm with straight talk for the wife and I and we've never been happier.

Well StraightTalk is using ATT so it's really between Sprint/Verizon and since you already have issue with talk coverage/quality, that leaves Verizon.

LOL...http://reviews.sprint.com/5611v2/2412/customer-service-reviews/reviews.htm

I bought a Sprint phone from Costco a few years ago and returned it 4 days later. It took 4 months, about 8 calls (with 20-30 minute hold times each) before they actually got the billing on it correct. They charged me the EFT even though I had 30 days to return it. It was fixed on month 2 but then I got another bill for it on month 3 and finally fixed on month 4.

I have hated Sprint ever since...

If you want Sprint LTE and prepaid, go with ting.com. Their phones aren't ridiculous, and they're going to allow you to bring over a Sprint phone to use with their plan in the next couple of months.

I have sprint along with a lot of my friends. The phones are decent. Prices are reasonable for unlimited data. Service terrible in a lot of areas. LTE is fast but otherwise you get shoddy 3g service. Customer service isn't that great. I think some japanese company owns a majority of their stock now.

Honestly... anybody in LA use sprint and have working LTE? I didn't mind sprint at all... just wanted to try out straight talk... but man does the voice quality suffer. I had full bars and when I was talking to my gf driving home at 1am in the morning... it sounded like she was underwater since the sound was drowning out. Ugh.

dude, how are you NOT with sprint already?

sprint ftw

their service will only get better now that they've acquired clearwire
http://news.yahoo.com/sprint-just-bought-bunch-4g-lte-spectrum-acquiring-134625933.html

sprint has its shit together. their customer service is AMAZING and their service contracts and pricing are fantastic.

They've been saying that for years. Sprint was the first time I chose phone first over provider and I will never do that again. I got Sprint when they had the Galaxy S with the first 4G. It was awesome in their store since 4G worked but anywhere else on the road? 4G/3G was shotty, dropping, switching back and forth between 4/3G. I could never stream Pandora driving down the freeway without it dropping. Complained and I got them to give me some credit which I then put forth to the ETF and went to Tmobile prepay and then to Verizon for the Nexus.

Tmobile and Verizon have both been amazing for me. Verizon allowing me to cancel my land line internet and tether exclusively for my internet needs.

Warning about Sprint- their plans, phones, and speeds are good, but their coverage sucks. Step more than 2 miles away from any major interstate and you'll be dropping calls left and right.

As with what everyone says, the only reason Sprint is so cheap is because they barely have infrastructure to provide calls outside major major cities.

If you're going with Sprint anyway, check out Virgin Mobile. Same network, much cheaper plans, no contract. If you hate it you can sell the phone on Craiglist and sign with one of the major networks.

Sprint's LTE in Los Angeles is poised to get better in March or so.

If you don't care about LTE, why not go with Republic Wireless? For $19 per month, they have unlimited voice, text, and 3G data through Sprint towers. At your home, it routes everything through your internet.

Virgin Mobile doesn't offer LTE, yet. WiMAX, at best, and only on one phone.

Shhh, don't tell the OP. He's already made up his mind.

I'd stay on ST personally, unless you just like giving the phone company an extra $50 a month for nothing. The phone company executives really appreciate it... when they're on their private yachts cruising the Mediterranean.

Honestly... I wouldn't mind staying on straight talk if their voice quality was ok. I've had a number of complaints from my friends as well stating that my voice doesn't sound as clear as when I was on sprint. And same with me hearing peoples voices from my handset/car bluetooth... it's just frustrating not being able to understand people during a conversation.

Of course all these instances were when I was driving... still though, it shouldn't be this way.

no love for tmo? we've been on a family plan for several years now and have no complaints (4 lines no data originally). we recently upgraded my line to 2gb of 4G data and unlimited 2G data after that. the additional cost was $10/mo. i have had no issues with call quality and data speeds allowed me to watch netflix the other day while on lunch break with no hiccups. this is in the 07003 and 08540 area codes.

this. i live in a small town and the map on the sprint coverage map is a solid deep green meaning great signal all around my town BUT on the town the color is a light green and in a perfect circle around the my town. how i the hell does that happen???

i have been with tmobile for 8 years, good signal when i travel and never been screwed over by them like sprint did to me 2001-2002.
