Mobile Phone Jammer

I recently rented Jennifer Lopez's latest "movie" which I think was called "Enough". It was sadly, unsatisfying in more ways than one but to get to the point I noted that she used a portable electronic jamming device to prevent her victim from using his mobile phone.
Is this for real and if so what is the effective jamming range and what would it cost and from where?

I guess its possible, just transmit junk noise at the same freq as the phone, with more power.. mebbe?

not quite sure how you'd implement it.. RF is not my thing.

They do exist, and they are also illegal here in the US.......🙂
All movie theaters should have them. It's better than fining people as they can in NYC now. Just a very short range one so that nobody in a theater has any phone use.

Yep they exist.
And they are considered illegal in most countries.

I have however actually seen a RF jammer in operation.
Pretty cool.

Wish they would use those things in theatres.

Eh.. I don't think they should be allowed to be used anywhere other than a place that can cause' loss of life due to interference (maybe hospital?)

In a movie theatre, yes - people need to be more considerate.. But, you'll still have those "relative just died" or "wife is having a baby.. hurry up and get home" type calls that really NEED to be answered.

Would work in a movie theatre....but surely in a hospital it would cause more interference than a normal phone!

You know, I'd like to hear a verifiable report of a newer low power cell phone stopping heart machines in hospitals, or bringing down an airplane.

No, I'm not taling the old, huge 5W analog phones from the late 80s, but the newer 1.5W phones.

"no mobile phones" is alot easier than "no mobile phones over 2.5W"

That's just the thing. What cell company is selling, much less supporting phones over 1.5W now?

There used to be ones called "Wavewall" or something like that. I was under the belief that they are legal here in Japan, but they cost something like $300+ (or used to, that was a few years ago).

FCC strictly prohibits the use of an RF jammer, which is a shame.

People did fine without cellphones. If your wife is about to have a baby don't go to a movie theater.

And if a relative just died it probably doesn't matter if it takes you two hours to find out. At the least people should have their phones set on vibrate and then they can leave the movie theater. There is no reason to use one in a movie theater. None.

Nice thing is that most of the jammers on the market overseas can let pagers through for docs and other emergency personnel. Just as long as they leave the pagers on vibrate.

AMEN! ..ugh... and when bad drivers make their driving worse by using the phones on the road?!? WATCH OUT! People rely on technology too much....

How would you make one?

I agree. I'd be willing to try a covert installation in a theater (particularly a live theater) if was managing one. You do it right, and nobody would even notice, except that the phones won't function within the small area of the theater. I think pagers would still work if I got the RF ranges right (there are only two ranges to block in the US; cellular and PCS).
