it's my understanding that these are BGA chips... (Ball Grid Array, soldered directly to the mb)... it's not socket... wouldn't even bother if you don't have the necessarry $100,000 dollars worth of equipment to do it.....
best thing you can do for right now is max out the ram... find another laptop, same model just faster speed... or buy new laptop.
they come in either mpga2 or bga. the mpga2 are socketed. if you wanna spend a ton of cash you can try pricewatch. ebay prices tend to be about 60% less. bga is common on thin and lite laptops, so most 1ghz machines are mpga2. make sure you have bios support, some laptops dont support certain steppings, so best to go with an older chip.
Go for a mobile celeron. They have 256k cache, .13u process, and 133mhz FSB, and speeds up to 1.4ghz. As good or better then the 1000mhz P3, and ALOT cheaper!!
