mobile p4 vs regular p4 in notebooks

You get more battery life out of the battery and it produces less heat.

Its specifically built for the mobile usage wheres the P4 isn't and doesn't bother with battery saving features......
 
yep. the desktop p4s run really hot and suck down battery. However, a lot of manufacturers are giving these systems bigger batteries to fix that. The downside is it increases the wieght of the notebook into the 7-9 pound range.

And the p4m wasn't specificly built for mobile usage...it's an adapted p4. now the pentium-m on the other hand... 🙂
 
basically the mobile cpu can switch between 2 clock speeds....so when not as much cpu power is needed, it will shift down to conserve it. the pentium-m has like...6 speeds, so its much more efficient.

The mobile p4 has enhanced speedstep too, meaning it can switch between more than two speeds (I think there's three actually) depending on the load of the system. The pentium M can do the same thing too (same thing, 3 speeds. My 1.3ghz p-m speeds are 600/800/1300). The reason why the pentium m is more battery efficent is that it was designed to be power efficent from the start, with a shorter pipeline, and advanced power saving features that cut the power to areas of the CPU that aren't in use.
