Mobile Micro-PGA2 cpu help please

Howdy,

Just a quick question for someone to explain the difference between micro-pga2 cpus.

I've noticed that some CPUs in the Micro-PGA2 factor have a core voltage of 1.6V while other have this Core Voltage
1.6V/1.35V what does that mean when it is split like that? Does that mean it can use as much as 1.6V and as little as 1.35V, or is this a special split voltage?

Currently I have a Celeron 450MHz Micro-PGA2 cpu inside (Spec # SL3PF) and I know I can get higher Celeron cpus up to 900MHz that have identical voltage and thermal guidlines (15.0-21.1W)

I want to throw a Mobile Micro-PGA2 Pentium III cpu inside but the 1.6V / 1.35V seems to worry me... I am worried I might fry the PIII cpu that has that kind of voltage becuase I do not know what the split thing means.

The CPU switches to the lower voltage when the speedstep feature is activated (PIII 600MHz and higher). As long as your Celeron is a mobile celeron, they you shouldn't have any problem. The only problem that could arise is if the BIOS doesn't recognize the newer stepping CPU. If that happens, put the old CPU back in and try different BIOS versions.

COOL!!! I popped in a 800MHz micro-pga2 PIII and the notebook booted up!!! It reads as a PIII 666MHz in the BIOS and in Windows it reads as 650MHz using DXDIAG.EXE and a couple of other motherboard id programs 🙂

The notebook is faster... I still want to see how far I can push it... will experiment with the DIP switches near the cpu socket soon.

Wonder why it is only reading as 650MHz... hmmm, will have to figure that one out.
