I've been using my Clear Hotspot for years. Though the service was irregular it had by far the best coverage of any device, supported multiple users at the same time plus:
No contract, no plan, just a flat monthly rate.
And...NO CAPS...ever. The speed never changed, whether I just checked a few google text messages one month or decided to watch Netflix in HD all week (think 100 GB+ per month).
Well over the years the monthly rate has creeped up from $20 to $40. With Clear being assimilated by the Sprint collective I'm considering a replacement. I still consider a cap-free/throttle-free rate of $40 a month fairly reasonable but was curious to see how much the market has improved over the past 5 years.
I live in Las Vegas but frequently travel to California (Orange, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco) as well as Washington (Seattle). The hotspot worked almost everywhere. It also worked fine when I traveled to the mid-west and on the east coast.
Does anyone know of a carrier with just as wide coverage, no activation/cancellation/overage/underuse/mickey mouse/pie in the sky fees, and no data caps?
Most of the current plans I have seen are fee heavy and only give like 250 MB per month and are about as easy to read as the tax code. 250 Meg is about 15 minutes of video a month...that's not quite enough for my needs.
I know I'm going to have to buy a new hotspot since the carriers have decided to gouge for additional funds by carrier locking them...but I'm willing to spring for that.
So anyone?
Thanks in advance!
