I'm not too familiar with Laptop harddrives. My buddy's hard drive died on his laptop, and he needs a new one. We went to one store, but the guy didn't really know much either. He said he could get a 10 GB IBM drive, a 15GN model I believe. Will this work in all IBM Laptops? Will this work in all laptops period? Or are there many laptops with proprietory hardware.

All depends on the laptop. Most laptops made in the past 2-3 years use the same drives. Older laptops had no standards. Each generation of IBM Thinkpad had a different drive type until then.
MWave has some decent prices on laptop drives.
 
So, if it's a newer laptop, it would be fairly safe to assume that it's the one's IBM are selling, right? I don't know the model number, thats the problem. He couldn't remember, so we're kinda just guessing here.
