Mobile GPU question, which is better?

Just wondering which is better performance? I couldnt find any benchmarks comparing these two. HD2600xt Mobility 512mb vs 9600m-gt 512mb

Not sure this would help but here you go, it seems like that the difference is marginal.

They should be pretty equal. In some games that favor Nvidia hardware the 9600 will be faster and in others the 2600 will be faster.

9600m hands down. The 2600 series was comparable to the 8500gt, and the 8600gt was about 1.5x faster then that. Then you compare the 9600gt to the 8600gt and its no comparison, the 9600 is leaps and bounds faster then the 2600.

Unfortunately that is not accurate, the 8600m GT (475 core 950 shader 700 memory-128bit) and the HD2600 vanilla (500 core 500 shader 600 memory-128bit) are similar in performance, without AA HD2600 is a little faster and the 8600GT takes the lead with AA enabled.

Now here we are comparing the 9600m GT (500 core 1250 shader 800 memory-128 bit) and 2600 XT(700 core 700 shader 750 memory-128bit). Now if you were confused with the desktop 9600 GT specs then I understand, but the mobile part is nothing but an rebranded & overclocked G84m

hmm i wonder how much will be the difference between a 8600 gt and a 8600m gt in terms of the fps

The 8600 really likes extra clock speed, so there is a pretty significant difference in performance.

well my current laptop is either the XT or the vanilla HD2600. Im guessing its the vanilla card tho because catalyst control center doesnt specify that its an XT card. Its a Gateway m-6862 and I think these came with both cards and some were marked as XT's that werent. I was just hoping to get comparable performance out of a 9600gt to use as a backup media center and travel PC. The Gateway handles everything Ive thrown at it pretty well, even oblivion with details on medium.

Are there any major differences in the feature sets between cards that I should be concerned with?

I appreciate all the help.

I have the same laptop as you, catalyst center doesn't specify it as an XT but what you and I have is the XT version.

Now if you have a media pc with a desktop 9600GT then your card is much faster than either the 2600XT or 9600m GT/ 8600m GT.

This just to set all the records straight:

Mobile:

HD 2600: 500 core 500 shader 600 memory-128bit
HD 2600XT: 700 core 700 shader 750 memory-128bit

8600m GT (32 Shaders): 475 core 950 shader 700 memory-128bit
9600m GT (32 Shaders): 500 core 1250 shader 800 memory-128bit


Desktop:

HD 2600Pro: 600 core 600 shader 800 memory-128bit
HD 2600XT: 800 core 800 shader 1400 memory-128bit

8600GT(32 Shaders): 540 core 1190 shader 1400 memory-128bit
8600GTS(32 Shaders): 675 core 1450 shader 2000 memory-128bit

9600GT(64 Shaders): 650 core 1625 shader 1800 memory-256bit



Now lets look at the 9600GT & 9600mGT. The desktop 9600GT has twice the amount of shaders which are clocked 375Mhz higher, core is clocked 100 Mhz higher, the memory is 256bit compared to 128bit and yet is 1Ghz faster. The desktop 9600GT will demolish the any of the other cards I have listed above, it will not even be close.



Nvidia in their infinitely wise judgment yet again choose to confuse mobile consumers and make money in the process. Now the card that will be close to the desktop 9600GT is the 9800m GTS NOT the 9600m GT
