According to Ace?s Hardware, AMD will introduce mobile Duron before the end of the month, i.e. before the end of the year:
The mobile Duron is expected to debut between 600 Mhz and 700 Mhz, depending on the market region. This will definitely give AMD a strong boost in the portable market because until now AMD is still depending on the aging K6-2 and the almost elusive K6-2+ to hold the ground. AMD is also expected to introduce mobile Athlon by Q1 next year, and according to Ctech, will match Intel in introducing a 1 Ghz mobile processor in Q2 2001.
Well, it means that AMD, which has initially planned to launch the mobile Duron CPU only in Q2 2001, is ready to do it in a month now. This fact gives us every reason to suppose that the next Athlon core, Palomino, is also ready for launching and may come out earlier than it has been expected to. Probably, the company doesn?t feel like throwing into the market everything they have only because there is no need for them to hurry up and they just wait for more favorable circumstances.
