Im planning to upgrade my computer (currently PIII 800 MHZ) and i was looking to get the Abit NF7-S v2 and the mobile barton 2500. First question is the will the mobile cpu fit onto the motherboard and why is the lower operation voltage 1.45 i believe, better than the 1.65. sounds noobish, but plz enlighten a noob plz!
 
Actually from what I'm seeing, it's not worth getting a mobile CPU. The ceiling on some is a little higher, but not by much. There's been people getting 2.4 Ghz out of regular Bartons for a year now... and these newer mobile bartons don't even seem to be able to do it at a lower voltage. Look at Elcs for example... his only likes 2300 Mhz and is unstable any higher. I have a week 24 Barton that runs 2300 Mhz on 1.750 volts.
The mobile ones cost about 25% more than a regular barton, and in my opinion, it's really not worth it. Just get a regular barton and set the FSB to 200 Mhz and be happy with your <$80 XP3200.
 
If you're going to run things at stock speeds, the mobile will run cooler. It's up to you if you want to spend the extra cash for the mobile.
 
Well, since a better chip will run the same speeds at lower voltage, you're guaranteeing you self a better chip by buying a mobile Barton. I'm considering getting one myself. I don't mind paying AMD $10-20, for a guarantee of a higher quality chip!
