Mobile athlon 64 vs Pentium M?

Looking at laptops to use as a sesktop replacement. Does anybody know anything about these two CPUs?? 2 mbs lv2 cache vs 64 bit compatibility?

The A64 is faster for games for sure. The only difference is whether or not you want long battery life. If you are going DTR style and won't be moving that laptop around much, then I would go A64. But if you are planning to lug it around here and there...I would consider going P-m instead.

Definitely get a A64. Only get a PM if you want more then 2.5hrs or so of battery life. I tried both cpu's and the A64 is much spunkier to me.

Hmm, I think I'd go with the Pentium M for sure. People are starting to use them in desktops now; the performance of those chips is pretty awesome. Keep in mind that for most games, the video card will probably be the bottleneck on a laptop. I'm also not so sure that the Athlon 64 mobile part smokes the Pentium M in anything; too bad nobody posted links to benchmarks.

In the end, I'm saying that I'd get a Pentium M because it's the best laptop chip, hands down. It's plenty "spunky" enough to be a desktop replacement part. DTR makers like Sager, Acer, HP, etc. are using it more and more. You just can't beat it.

Note that there's a difference between the A64 mobile and the desktop part, which I believe is found in some horking-big DTRs... Those big suckers have less than an hour of battery life, though.

The P-M is a pretty nice chip.

I'd say it's more about which features that come with the laptop.

There is more to a computer than just a CPU.
