Didn't see any other posts about this, so here goes:

Model is the M6805,
Mobile Athlon 64 3000+ (2.0ghz clock)
15.4" TFT widescreen display with 1280 x 800 resolution
512 MB DDR2700
60.0GB hard drive
ATI Mobility RADEON 9600 graphics with 64MB DDR video memory; S-video TV-out
802.11g, wired ethernet, 56k
1 IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interface and 4 high-speed USB 2.0 ports for fast digital data transfer and mobile digital imaging possibilities
Weighs 7.5 lbs/1.5" thin for portable power; high-capacity 8-cell LiIon battery
Windows XP Home Edition operating system preinstalled
Combo DVD/CD-RW drive
7.5lbs, 1.5" high

The price seems okay for what you get, but there's no mentioning of battery life. It is a mobile processor so hopefully it's not too bad as a regular 64 would be. But it's still 7.5 pounds. Dunno if there's any other deals coming up or coupons. So far, no rebates, and free shipping on the website.

not a bad price at all for an 64 bit processor in a laptop. Alienware was the only other pc maker with this chip. Although, I can't find it anymore.

The only drawback would be the 32 bit OS (XP Home) running on a 64 bit processor. I remember MS was to release a 64 bit version XP Pro early this year.

This may still drain the battery, it is pulls more watts than an XP-M or Centrino-based P4M. But, if they have fully implemented Cool'N Quiet this may not be bad. One heck of a desktop replacement, but it doesn't way much more than many Tier one manufacturer models do at 7.5 Lbs. Personally, I like the sub 5 Lbers and then have a normal desktop but this would be nice. The 3000+ with it's low-latency memory controller really would kick arse against most any notebook out there, and the 9600 won't hurt for gaming.

No problem with XP Home, I would go with Pro. if you will connect to work LAN, etc. Think of the Athlon 64 as a faster, better designed Athlon with the ability to run 64-bit OSs & applications. No problem with 32-bit at all, faster in most everything than what Intel offers.

Here's hoping for a MIR this weekend on all laptops or something. I would maybe give this thing a shot. One of the few laptops to have a Radeon 9600 AND it has a 64-bit processor? Plus the 40GB and 512MB. It's pretty killer deal as it is. I wonder if thats ECC ram or not. It's probably 2 256 sticks so it can run in Dual Channel mode.

You could always try to put 64-bit linux on it. :)

The two problems I have with it is the low resolution LCD (not all WXGA are created equal.. or very clear...) and 802.11g and I run b in my apartment.

Not quite. VoodooPC sells their Envy m:855 laptop with the Mobile Athlon 64 3000+ or 3200+.

emachines is under new management. back in the day when everything they made sucked , their stuff was made by trigem , in korea. the new desktops ar emostly FIC. so maybe FIC makes the laptop too, though i doubt it.

Man I wish I had 1600 smackers, cuz that's a real nice setup! 7.5 lbs is not too bad considering the Dell Inspiron 8xxx lines are pretty heavy too.

Im actually thinking about getting this, combined with SUSE 64 bit OS. Anyone know what kind of problems I might have with drivers etc, trying to get this OS on this machine.

Huh? Did you mean the eMachines has no burner? It looks like it does according to the Bestbuy listing...
