I couldn't find any mobile 64's at Newegg, can anyone link me to where I can get one? Also, does mobile only work with the Zenith Value edition of the Chaintech VNF3 or is it with all versions? And if there's a better mobo for a mobile 64 please let me know. Thanks alot!

I wrote chaintech tech support, and they recommend against using the mobile 64, due to bios issues. I believe they stated that the motherboard wouldn't recognize the cpu properly. I would write them to be sure. They replied to my request in less than 1 day. Newegg had some refurb athlon 64 mobile 2700's for less than $150 recently, clocked at 1.6.

Chaintech VNF3-250 Zenith Value Edition [AGP/PCI Lock, FID 4x-Max, HTT Adjust, VCore, VDimm, LDT; Tested with Athlon 64 DTR 1.5v, Athlon 64 Mobile 1.4v] - will NOT boot with shipping BIOS. What that means is that you have to get *another* DESKTOP CPU and flash to the 2004/7/29 BIOS found here:
http://www.chaintechusa.com/tw...?DCSNo=4&PISNo=276
Then swap out the desktop with the mobile chip. At that point the motherboard will boot but the CPU will lock down to a 4x multiplier (800Mhz) To correct this one needs to go into the Frequency/Voltage control menu in the BIOS and enable voltage adjustment and MANUALLY select the proper voltage for the chip. Then, in the same menu select the FID control and manually select the proper multiplier for the chip. Reboot and the problem should be solved.

Can I use my Athlon XP to get it started? Who would actually buy 2 cpu's? Looks like I'm not going to be getting a mobile chip unless its exceptionally worth it.

Ok, I've figured some things out. Is the only reason to get an A64 mobile so that you can overclock easily?

I'm looking at the DFI Lanparty Nforce3, now I just need to find a good mobile chip. Thanks for the replies.

A64 mobiles are like XP mobiles, good overclockers.

DFI + CG DTR A64 mobile =

i suggest the 1.5 volt DTR with 1meg of cache, that and the DFI board should be sweet.
