Mobile 2500+ Barton?

Newegg has 2500+ mobile CPU with 512K cache just like the Barton but at a much lower voltage.
Is this procesor that much cooler and is that much better for overclocking in a regular desktop as the voltage suggests?

And are there any problems or compatability issues with using this CPU with a modern motherboard?

Heard about those being good ocers, definately should give a try 🙂
But I'm happy with my 2800 barton so I dont want to buy anything right now.
 
Anybody know if these work in regular NForce2 motherboards?

Aslo, would it handle running at 333 FSB at default multiplier which would be at 2.5 GHz?

I overclocked my laptop by about 20% and ran it with a 120 mm fan on the keyboard. that was back in the socket7 days. There were little dip switches to control FSB and multiplier. The best part was upgrading the processor though.

No, that's right, it also runs at 2 Ghz instead of 1.83 like the desktop version with a 333 Mhz FSB.
 
I am buying this for a dekctop not a laptop so I need to know if it will run on a standard desktop. The one and only review on newegg.com says that it will not but I just wanted to know if anyone here tried it and can say otherwise.

I thought about it too, if it'll run at 2.0 Ghz on 1.25 volts that's pretty amazing... you would think maybe 2.5 or 2.6 Ghz would be possible on 1.65 volts with no extraordinary cooling. I suspect the processor can handle more voltage since I doubt they change much about the CPU core itself, and the current process those CPU's are made by seems to be good up to at least 1.75 volts with no problem.

You're right, doesn't run at 2 Ghz... newegg has their specs wrong again... what's goin on with them? I just checked AMD's site and the Mobile XP2500 runs at 1.87 Ghz according to them.

I have one running as an unknown CPU type on my ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2.0, but be aware that it will detect with an 6X multiplier. Cutting the 5th L1 bridge fixed this though and put it to a 14X multiplier, the rest can be done through bios. Looks like the main difference is they flipped one bit on the bridges to make them non usable in desktops, though that is easily fixed as it is an un;locked chip. Currently running at 2250 (205 X 11) @ 1.75v, can't get any higher stable even raising to 1.8v.

I think you mean 205, not 105 =)

that kinda sucks, my 0315 barton does 2400 @1.71V guess i was lucky, if anything, see how high it will go at 1.5V, if you just run it at default speed, the only thing that $5 gets you is a very cool running processor 🙂 which is nice, it means less fans,

the best app for these in a desktop is if you are using one of those really small "baby pcs" like the ones shuttle makes, i had one for a while and that little ah heck was loud cause of the variable speed fan always being on full blast to keep it cool , and i was using a normal barton
