So the 5 hour oil change is due on my Cub Cadet mower and I was wondering what oil to use. The manual doesn't specify any certain brand just that 10w-30 is the recommended viscosity. I have a couple of quarts of Mobil 1 10w-30 laying around in the garage and was wondering if that would work. The bottle claims it is good for all gasoline powered engines but I'm not sure it that just means for passenger vehicles.

If the Mobil 1 won't work does anyone have a recommendation for a certain brand?

Mobil 1 will work just fine. Personally, I always wait for a couple of oil changes before switching to full synthetic...but mostly because I'm old enough to remember when new engines NEEDED a proper break-in to help get rid of minute shavings and such as the engine parts wore in...today's engines are (usually) built to a much higher tolerance level and that's not such an issue.
Still...if it was me, I'd use dino oil for one more oil change cycle...but if you want to use the Mobile 1 now...I don't think it will hurt a thing.

Thanks for the info Boomer. I thought it would be ok just wanted double check. After work tomorrow I will let the mower warm up a bit and then change the oil.

Even the power equipment that does specify a brand.... I have used different brands of the same weighted oil and no issues.

My Kobalt Air compressor from lowes has a sticker which says to use Mobile... i used royal purple i had laying around and no issues for the last 4 years
