Moan... Roadrunner doesn't provide a discount for...

...using our own DOCSIS cable modems. :|

I've heard most cable ISPs take $10 (the lease ISPs charge for the modem install) off the monthly bill if we use our own modem. I just called my RR/TW ISP today and the cs lady said flat out: "no, we do not provide that discount. You have to use our modem because it has a serial number that needs to pass account verification on our servers to gain access." I thought they used the MAC for that. :Q Anyway, can't they easily change the account verification over to the new serial number of my modem?

And to think JD Powers & Assc. recently ranked Roadrunner highest in customer satisfaction.

Why?

Can anybody else here verify this? Have you tried to use your own modem with RR?

Fair has to be fair!

In close to two years that I use RoadRunner, I never experienced any significant down time, and my bandwidth is always above 2Mb/sec. (most of the times close to 3Mb/sec).

I assume that these factors are more important to most users then the few bucks saved on purchased modem.

In 6 months with RR I haven't had any troubles after the initial installation teething problems, and received excellent customer service to quickly resolve those initial problems. The tech that helped me over the phone even called me back on their own time a few days later to check to see if everything was still working. It was.

Compare this to the nightmare Comcast or @Home customers are/have been going through. There could be worse things than not being able to use your own modem.

Guess I was too harsh in my original post. I average 2Mbs too, which is great. But I just had my hours cut at work, so "the few bucks saved on a purchased modem" could have gone a long way in my ability to keep my RR service or not.

I know 10 bucks a mo. doesn't matter for most people here, but when you live on a very puny budget like mine, it matters.

Now excuse me while I resume my search for more work so I can keep it...

You may think its worth it now just wait till THIS happens. Cable company decides heavy bandwidth users will pay an additional monthly fee.

cuz i get about 3mbs/450kbps from roadrunner and I USE ALL OF IT hehe
