MMORPG Question

Yeah so I decided to try out both FFXI and Horizons and both turned out to be not very fun. I am not familiar with the older ones like EQ or DAOC, but this is what I want out of one of these games:

An ongoing war where the front lines get pushed back and forth continuously. So one day you can be in some forest and everything is fine but the next time you go there, you are swamped with mobs becasue they have taken over the area. Can any existing MMORPG do this? I know of planetside but I played it and the control/engine reminded me too much of Tribes II. FFXI had some odd conquest system but it really didn't do anything territorial-wise.

Any suggestions/thoughts?

Try Star Wars Galaxies. Some parts are boring, but overall I've enjoyed my time playing (Just stay away from Bria, Eclipse, and Bloodfin servers. They are always crashing).

Yeah Lineage II seemed fairly interesting.

I also looked at AO and I might try out that 7 free day thing just to see.

My coworker is playing SWG and says it is very fun. But then again he also liked FFXI which I thought was oh so boring.

I just don't find the whole, lets solo or find a group and kill things very interesting. Having a goal of taking over a location is much more interesting and makes grouping all the more fun.

Darkfall sounds awesome. I play Shadowbane right now, it's the only real option for a full pvp mmprpg.

It's getting better with each patch but I am ready to quit playing as soon as something better comes along.
