I'm going to try really hard to skip this beta session (which starts today @ 1PM EST) to keep myself from getting beta burnout. I've already pre-ordered the game (I got the digital collectors edition for $47!) so I'm obviously wanting to play it more but I'm hoping I can resist just a bit longer.

Anyone ele preorder prematurely?

Understandable - but you really should play this beta:

"We’ve had heaps of players in the RIFT beta, and we’re really proud of how the shards are holding up. We think they can handle pretty much whatever we throw at them... so let’s throw more stuff! We’re hosting a special “Bring Down the House” event this Saturday to see just how much they can handle. The proverbial gauntlet has been thrown down and to make it worth your while, we’ll be giving away 100 In-Game Prize Packs, and an Nvidia GTX 460 video card. All you have to do is play for the duration of the event.

Bring it. We dare you. Because seriously, the riftspawn were saying some pretty rude things about all your moms. "

Wow - really enjoying Purifier/Warden/Sentinel Build so far [only lvl 6] - now only if I can find a dual spec WoW holy/shadow priest build and I'll be happy. :)

Warden splashes are great for any cleric build because the 0 pt HoT and instant cast damage spell are extremely useful in PvE solo, PvE groups and PvP. You could probably finish in the top 3 in black gardens using nothing but those two skills.

Weird, nobody else is crashing at the launcher when it says you need to update your DirectX?

Man they really changed some things. I died like twice in Beta 5, but have died like 10 times already. DPS on mobs has gone way up.

Yeah they've definitely ramped up the difficulty and tweaked the balance of the game. My bard was nearly a god in beta 5 but I've probably died at least 20 times from 1 to 13 on a new bard.

Druid seems to be a good healer, gets a shield and a small heal early on,

one thing i don't like is that i can't put all my points into 1 soul tree. the game forces you to put points into the others.

Keep messing around with different combos. I've made like 9 different characters so far some I didn't like even after a few lvls others I enjoyed. When I first went cleric I tried going one tree and didnt like it at all, tried cleric again going another tree and loved it and will probably be my main when the game launches now.

Ok, I think I got my MMO fill in. Kind of bored with it already. Might be because I made so many different characters and had to do the same exact quests over and over again.

I probably wasn't going to buy it anyway.

Man I am level 32 and all of my quests are 35/36 and I just get ripped. I don't know what I skipped but it's annoying.

Did anyone play during the stress test today? Man it was crazy fun. Tons of rifts open and invasions going on for 2 hours straight. It was funny as hell watching a giant train of people running around just demolishing anything in their path lol.

I have no idea half the shit I have and such and I don't care, it has been awhile since I've found an MMO found outside of Eve.

I think everyday in the betas has been a "stress" test - constant rifts, mobs taking over controls points, and the "trains of death". I really didn't notice anything different during the stress test yesterday [the server messages were humorous] - maybe it was internal to their system. I just wonder if the number of rifts and generated mob attacks are going to be the same when the game goes live or if it's mainly for beta. Battling RIFTS is fun - but I'd have to agree when someone said in chat they were getting to be annoying.

I purchased an additional "role" [similar to buying dual spec in WoW] today so my cleric could run around as a "ret pally with a shield" - Justicar/Shaman/Druid hybrid. It definitely doesn't have the same survivability as my "healer", but it's pretty interesting. Combat at level 18 seems a bit slow [I think WoW is the same too]. Looking at the soul trees - you could build some really interesting "roles" [Justicar/Cabalist/Sentinel]

There's just so many things to do and see in this game - I arrived at the city and was overwhelmed with the sheer amount of faction vendors, "soul" quests [which is a very cool way to obtain all of the souls for your class], merchants, dailies, etc. Definitely need a "wowhead" version for RIFT.

There are only 2 things I do not like about the game so far -

[1] "15 second" run speed buff needs to have a 1 minute cool down. Walking seems to be slower in this game than others I've played.
[2] Game needs more "flight paths" between various areas. I've found one "main teleport" between the main city and one of the main towns, but we need more teleport locations so we can quickly get to a RIFT

I was pretty locked in on playing Defiant-side (warrior is L29), but after a couple of days leveling a mage on the Guardian side (got up to L26 as of this afternoon) I'm feeling more ambivalent. The Guardian zones and their leveling instances (Realm of the Fae and Darkening Deeps) seem more polished and I like their looks better.

So it's that vs. a greater assurance of PvP success as a Defiant. I'll warn any semi-serious PvPer out there: don't roll Guardian unless you have lots of friends or a guild group. Raw Guardian PUGs are painfully bad.

Although which side is still up in the air, I've settled on my class choices: warrior main with a mage alt. The warrior is going to be primarily a tank and PvPer, and the mage will be a flexible DPSer and healer. I like the pyromancer/elementalist combo (it feels a lot like the fire mage in WoW, which I played for a long time), but the option of going chloromancer to heal is pretty sweet.

This is probably a good time for me to slow down and avoid beta burnout. I haven't done anything in the shared zones (Scarlet Gorge or further on), and probably want to keep it that way so I can have that "first time" feeling when the game is live.

The reactive heals on hit from the justicar are awesome. It's a fun class. I need to figure out a rogue option I like. I played a swashbuckler in eq2 for a long time. I like that style more than the glass cannon style rogues. I like steady damage output. I may roll up a chloro/necro next time.

Well, I've been playing this weekend, and got sick of the quest grinding and rift grinding. At lvl 16 I was thinking "No more." But then I played warfronts, and had a blast playing those. Got to lvl 23 just doing those the last day. I think if I buy the game I'm going to be mainly in warfronts.

I've had to change it up every hour or so. Quest grinding is lucrative but gets tedious. Fortunately, there's usually some rifts or footholds to help close, or one of the bigger zone-wide invasion events going on, to break up the grind. You can also queue up for warfronts from anywhere in game, so that option is only one keypress away. Wait times haven't been bad on the Guardian side this weekend: never more than 2 minutes.

Also, if you are interested in PvE instances, at L23 you have your choice of two of them. On either side, there's an L18ish instance and an L22ish instance. At 23 you are in the butter zone to try either or both.
