Went on a spending splurg....lots of OT this month.

I had a 3500+, 1 gig of ram and 20inch Dell LCD.

Upgrade:

AMD FX-60
3 Gigs of Ram
Westinghouse 37 W3
EVGA 8800 GTS

Add to that the HD-Homerun Dual HD QAM tuner and I may never leave my computer room again.

PICS! (No 8800 GTS yet, but my 6800GT plays fine on C&C 3 at 1920x1080) No burned pixels either....

Desktop Flash On
Desktop Lights Out
C&C 3 Sideview 1080p

Just out of curiosity, how much did you get the 8800GTS for? 320mb or 640mb?

I recently upgraded from a 20" Dell to the 24" Gateway. Before I even THINK about getting back into PC gaming, I need at least an 8800GTS 640mb to drive my games at 1900x1200 with the settings I like.

My 37 westinghouse just died :(.

Great screen for the price but it has horrible speakers, use something else for sound.

i would sincerely hope that someone who would seek out the 37w3 for what it is wouldn't be using its speakers. ;)

Awesome setup, I will post pics of mine. Here are my specs

Core 2 Duo @ 3Ghz
Nvidia 7900GS (I don't game, just wanted PureVideo features)
2GB Ram
Antec Solo Case
NHT Absolute Zero Bookshelf speaker on 30" Target stands
Trends TA-10 2-channel amplifer
MicroDAC to convert PCM from Chaintech AV-710
HDHomeRun

My setup is amazing. I'm not saying this to brag, it literally is mind blowing watching 1080P trailers or HDTV content. I've yet to see a setup that really rivals what I've put together (all for under $2000 mind you).

Sounds like a sweet setup....

The 8800 GTS will really be the final piece that makes my system. The 6800 GT is fine, but I can't playback HD-DVD (360 Drive)....

If anyone is looking for a large monitor, this one is amazing.

I didnt like my friends westy even though I told him to get it.:p Black levels on it are atrocious even when compared to weak black LCDs like IPS's and the huge pixels making for a grainy desktop didnt help either. Being sensitive to motion blur I had a major problem there as well. But if you're happy with it then thats all that matters, my friend absolutely loves his Westy too:)

Eh, you need to get your eyes checked then.

I have a 24inch Dell as well, and two 20's, and the Westy is every bit as good as they are........

It's not grainy at all either......Your friend doesn't know how to set it up I guess

Are there any other quality 37-42" LCDs that compares to the Westy in terms of price and input capability? It seems like everyone is going for the 37W3 lately--is that because it's one of the only ones that can double as a PC monitor or because you can pick one up for under a G?

I had the 32W6 for a while, but I only used it for its HDTV capabilities because when I hooked up my PC via the VGA input I wasn't impressed with the quality at all. If the 37W3 is much better in this regard then I'd really consider buying it vs. the 24/27/30" LCDs that I've been looking at simply because the price/size factor is so much better than with a PC monitor.

I am a gamer first but, from a video editors point of view would the westy or the dell 2407 be better? Nice system btw!

Not really, most are too expensive to consider.

Plus so many people love the W3 and have tested it out in many scenarios, you can't really go wrong.

I was worried, but after getting it I am convinced.......

I'm using my 2405 at work, (same thing as 2407 basically) and it's very nice.

you can get the 2407 for 650 from costco.com right now with 3 year advanced replacement.

The only issue for me, the inputs. The westy has HDMI and 2 DVI + 2 component.

I can use it with alot more stuff than the Dell.

The Biggest thing for me, the size difference. The 37inch is 136% larger than the 24..........and it really makes a big difference playing games

So text isn't grainy in Windows when running the native res?

And does this display do 1:1 pixel mapping or does it stretch lower resolutions to fill the screen? Thanks for your help! :)

Forgive the lousy pics....but you can see how clear the text is....it's flawless in person.

Yes is does 1:1.
There is no stretching on the screen at lower resolutions.
