I consider a watch a good investment. Just make sure you buy the right one since it's something you'll be wearing a lot.

Personally I don't like leather bands, but the second one you posted looks nice.

The first one is actually not leather, its more of a smooth plastic type feel. I tried it on in the store, and its very comfortable.

The second one you posted is nice.

I've had my swiss army watch for 3 years now. It's a very worthwhile investment. I have This one (except of saying "Wenger" it says "Swiss Military" and there is no day name (i.e. wed), just the date)

What? It doesen't have a knife, sissors, saw, fish scaler, screwdriver and bottle opener?

Not worthy of the "Swiss Army" title.. :p

Personally I find quartz watches a little lifeless. You could get a perfectly swell Japanese automatic watch (or even several of them!) for this kind of cake, at Chronograph.com or its ilk. Personally I wear a Seiko SKX779k. This is a handsome quartz diver's watch, IMO, if you go in for that type of thing - it's a pretty knockoff of the swell Omega Seamaster.

My 1st was a leather one ~gift...it broke.
2nd i bought and it was a metal strap...broke. all within 1 and half yrs use.
i shelled out for a TagHeuer after 2 swissarmies died on me...
and just to let u know, i brought it to a watch repair place..
he said other than a few parts, the innards of them are all plastic and cardboard type materials so
thats why they can break easily..i know it looks good outside but its cheap
materials inside.

my tagheuer on the other hand is 100% stainless...in out..everything. been 3yrs...
and i abuse my watches...they have to be able to take water, salt water, sand...etc.
Don't mean to crap on SwissArmy stuff(i absolutely love my 101 swiss army knife!) but
if u advertise that their army uses these stuff, i expected a little better overall durability.
If it can't handle me surfing with my watch on, then its kinda useless in my book.

I don't think they're cheaper in switzerland...

My mom and her friends went over to switzerland over summer break and she said the swatch prices there were higher (before exchange rates) over there than here..

I saw the exact same watch for about $170 in Interlaken, Switzerland. It sells for $225 here.

I look at watches the same way I look at sunglasses.

I buy cheap ones because I'll either loose them (it) or brake them (it).

Every time I've kicked down for a expensive watch or glasses, I've regretted it down the road.

In all fairness, Tag Heuers just use stock Swatch movements, which are themselves pretty ordinary (particularly the quartz ones). Heuers are decent watches, but in my view they are VERY expensive for a watch without a high-quality in-house movement.
