Just joined up with Gevalia again because they had a good deal going on, and it had been awhile since I had used them before. I chose for my first two selections French Roast, and Mocca Java....I had forgotten how good the MJ is.

There is nothing like that first pot from a new coffee maker, with really good coffee.

Next up I think I'll try the Peruvian Organic, and some Kenyan.

Any other coffee freaks here? Post your favorite coffee....

BTW -

The deal was a Stainless Steel 12cup Coffee Maker, SS Travel Mug, and two 1/2 pound packages of their coffee for $19.95 (free shipping). I had broken the carafe on my old one, so I got all that for about what I would have spent on a new carafe ($15).

:)

I love my local stuff, community coffee.

I like a really big cup of coffee every morning with non-dairy creamer and 3 packets of splenda.

$19.95 or $99.95? Because if it was $19.95, even non coffee lovers should get in on this deal!

**Offical OMGINSANESRECIPEFORPERFECTCAWFEE**

  • Use whole bean coffee and grind it superfine
  • Use only spring or filtered cold water <--Very Important
  • Put a dash (VERY LITTLE) of salt on top of the grounds (prevents bitterness)
  • Use a thermal carafe and take the coffee off the burner as soon as it is done brewing.

You guys would die if you saw how much cream and sugar I put in my coffee. I can only use light cream as even half and half is way to thin to me. I also use a lot of sugar, and alternate between normal and turbinado.

$19.95 if you are joining. If you buy the maker seperately, it's $89.95. It's sort of like those CD clubs, but you can simply cancel after you get your first shipment, or you can set the type of coffee you get, the frequency and date of your shipments, and even stop shipments for up to 20 weeks. It's nice because you don't have to get coffee if you don't want any, and you always choose what you will get.

Also, there is another deal. It's the same as above, except instead of the travel mug, you get a stainless scoop, and it's only $14.95.

:)

Edit: There is no minimum you have to buy. Once you get the first shipment, you can log on to gevalia.com and cancel your account. It's real easy and you can talk to a real person 24/7.

I think you can get a variety pack or something, but I don't think it's free. All of their coffee is pretty high end stuff, so I doubt you will get any that taste like "p!sswater" unless your water has a urine taste. :p

drip gets rid of the chemical that hardens arteries, but it gets rid of flavorful oils. its alright and convenient
french press requires coarse ground, and tends to become luke warm rather quick. u do have more control though..and the oils. u still have a little murkiness.
there are vacumn pots which are more expensive and better, forced water methods. espresso is good too, but another pain in the ass t do.
there are those new packet based coffee makers that sorta do it espresso style, forcing hot water through fine grounds, but those packets are expensive. eventually nif they make one of those with a reusuable pouch it'll be decent.

I'd rather drink motor oil than starbucks. God that stuff is awful.

Managed to pick up some volcanic roast from a formerly local bad ass coffee though. Now I have to figure out how to use the coffee machine.

East Timorese Organic

I buy it for its rich taste and ability to be brewed strong without being bitter (no salt required), the feel good bit of supporting recently independent people is a bonus.

Well, they are a bit expensive, but it's not so bad that I can treat myself to a box of some specialty coffee every now and then. I changed my delivery time to every 20 weeks, so I can just schedule a delivery when I want it. ~$10-$12 lb for some of the varieties they carry really isn't bad.

Like I said though, I mainly joined to get that stainless coffee maker.

:p

Oh, and I must disagree on Starbuck's making it. First, there is no pot of coffee better than one made @ home, with quality ingredients, and to your own taste. You just can't get that at Starbucks IMO.

Also, Starbucks MO seems to simply be to burn their coffee to varying degrees....;)
