Mmmmm...beer-battered shrimp

I'll post the recipe if there are enough requests. Unfortunately I don't have a digicam for pics of the finished product.

:)

EDIT: I have a 10" Lodge cast-iron skillet and a 12" nonstick skillet (no-name, kinda crappy). I have about 60 small-medium shrimp to fry (I'm going to pan fry them). The cast-iron would be more fun and would make better shrimp, but the nonstick would be easier and faster. Which would you use?

I would use the one that would allow me to have about 2" of oil.

Or one I could use in the shower. It is beer-battered shrimp ya know.

1/2 cup beer (I used Honey Brown)
1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. salt
deep fryer (or skillet with 2 tbsp. oil)
1 lb. shrimp (I used pre-cooked)

Mix flour, salt and beer in small bowl, and shell/devein shrimp. Dip shrimp in batter and place in hot skillet with oil already in it.

Voila! But I wish I had a deep fryer. :):)

that's why I recommended a pan you can have 2" of oil in.

pan frying a batter is not going to work.

heck, you can do it in a sauce pan if you like.

I'd use the cast iron pan if it can hold enough. It's heavier, thus more thermal mass and better heat stability.

a, yep.

Nothing beats pany frying than a good cast iron skillet.

It holds the heat and keeps your oil temp up very well.
