mmm... Applebee's

/waits for everyone to come in and bash Applebee's like they bash every other casual dining chain

5-6 years is a LONG time. You should try them out again they are actually pretty good. Over the last year or two they have really picked it up.

I tried them 2-3 times. Food quality was ok, I just didn't care for the menu choices. WAY too much chicken items for my tastes. Doubt I'll try them again...too many good restaurants here to visit one that IMO is marginal at best...

nothing against applebees, but at the prices they charge in NYC, you can get yourself a much better meal at a middle of the road restaurant in nyc...

I don't hate chain restaurants in general. I think Ruby Tuesday's and TGI Fridays are alright...I even love the Outback, but I must agree, Applebee's is terrible. Well, at least the 2 I have been to.

I don't understand why people go out of there way to eat at these sort of places...I can understand if you're stuck in some shithole town on business or a layover and there's nothing else around or can't get too far from your hotel or airport, but to actively seek out these places in your hometown or a place you're visiting boggles my mind.

while I'm not everyone I will bash Applebee's and pretty much any pub & grill joint. While not all the food is horrendous, you can most likley find a MUCH better locally owned restaurant where the food is fantastic, service impecable and priced just as well.

Granted, but chains have their benefits too. i.e. consistent quality, fairly consistent menu. And hot waitresses. Seems like I always get more attractive waitresses at chains. 😉

Oh, btw, I mostly go to Applebee's because they have half priced appetizers after 10 p.m. Wife and I occassionally go there for a late dinner/snack on Friday nights. We can get a decent meal for ~$10+tip between the two of us.

The problem is that I don't feel like wasting my hard earned money trying to find these local places.

I go to chains like Applebees because I know they'll have at least one or two things I'll be interested in actually eating, and I know my wife will be able to do the same.
