MMC Messed up. Device Manager, etc don't work

I was doing a spyware cleaning for a customer. When i was done, the device manager, event viewer, and pretty much every MMC file wouldnt work. It says the mmc can not open the file when i click on any of them. Also, when i try to install Mcafee now, it says exception occured.

Any ideas on this. I searched google and came across a few problems similiar after doing an ad-aware, antispyware scan, but nobody has posted a fix yet.

All I have is sort of a related item.

I was working on a server that could not launch the dns.msc. Tried various things to reset it to no avail. Ran across a number of things in the search for the fix that mentioned a dns related dll named dnsmgmt.dll. I ran the regsvr32 command to register that dll, and then the dns console would open.

So my thought would be, that some sort of dll that is needed, is not registered. Maybe try to register the dll's related to mmc to see if that helps.

Sounds like a very good reason to use due care when using spyware software..I have never been convinced that all of them are smart enough to allow you to delete a critical system file.
