I'm not a soccer fan by any means, but my roommate was watching MLS on ESPN today..and I was able to catch the "magic minute", whereby a "lucky" fan gets to win a sum of money if a specific person scores a goal in a specific MINUTE of the game.

This week it happened to be the 17th minute of the DC/SJ game, and the guy who was supposed to score was on the BENCH.

To enter the contest then I think you have to pick the player and the minute..and to have your choice picked as the one that will have the chance to win will be already be 1/(how ever many people enter)..and the contest is hard enough to win alone if any specific person is picked to score in the entirety of a game, it is nearly impossible for a team to score in a given minute of the game..but when you combine the two the chances are as low as there never being a useless thread posted on AT ever again.

And you wonder why no one watches MLS..

Right...so my chances are about one in 200,000 of actually winning anything if I'm selected for the magic minute.

"Retarded" is a fitting word.

maybe they should just give you all their profits for doing nothing. that would really help them survive.

The point is, if they're going to promote something, let it be at least somewhat reasonable that someone can actually win something. Otherwise, don't bother.

This is equivalent to to having an NBA promotion where one lucky fan will win $10,000 if Karim Rush for the Lakers will hit a half-court shot in the 8th minute of the first quarter.

there was a baseball promotion a couple years ago where a fan would win like a million bucks if the player he chose hit a grand slam in a specified inning. the guy picked Jay Bell in the 5th, Jay Bell came up in the 5th with the bases loaded and blew it.
