MLB2K8

I really was looking forward to this game, they made great improvements from 2k6 to 2k7, and 2k8 looked to be really good.
It's horrible.
1) Bad, and I mean BAD stuttering in game
2) New pitching controls suck beyond comprehension, one slight miscue and the pitch turns into a homerun waiting to happen.
3) New batting, about the same as last year, but making it very difficult to time the step to the pitching move to the plate
4) Freezing, the game freezes almost everytime I play it.
5) AI is great, then it's horrible, then it's flat out stupid.
6) More diving stab grabs by the computer in one game that are really ever done in a month or more
7) this may seem petty, but they haven't changed the horrid polygon faces of the crowd, they actually look worse.
8) Joe Morgan & Jon Miller (seriously, they say the same exact things they did the year before with a tiny bit of new stuff, at least they got rid of that stupid side comment when a wild pitch was thrown)
9) Online play is non existant, I have yet to see more than 6 people online playing, this is at 7pm EST, on a weeknight.
10) Game cuts to a play already in progress because of the stutter.

I really wish I could return this game and wipe it's existence from my system. Unfortunately, I got in on ebay, so it's mine until I try to sell it. I figure I could get 10.00 if I'm lucky.

I don't know what system you have but I picked MLB 08:The Show for my PS3 and I've been pretty happy with it.

The AI is sketchy at times with fielding and has a penchant for hitting grand slams everytime the bases are loaded but otherwise it's pretty good.

It's a 360, yea, I wish there were other MLB options, really unfair to the consumer that any software company holds a monopoly on any pro sports league.
No competition= no worries, big f-u to the consumer. "don't like our baseball game on your 360? Go buy someone elses.. oop, wait you can't HA-HA!"

I hate this game and am pissed about the $60 I pissed away.

There are so many things wrong with it, the least of which is the awful quality control regarding the commentary. In one play Jon Miller will proclaim he hits in through the hole for a base hit, only the ss will snag the ball and throw to first for the out, and without hesitation Miller will excitedly exclaim in the same play that they nailed him at first. They will often refer to homeruns that I hit earlier as inside-the-park homeruns for no reason, remarking that he really hustled and they didn't think he was going to make it. On a random bloop hit to the outfield Joe Morgan will remark that the pitcher has now given up 5 or so hits in a row, its so many he can't remember (although to be fair, I don't think Joe Morgan can count, so maybe this comment isn't an error).

The other thing that kills me is the stupid pitching motion will sometimes not detect my motions, locking up the meter and throwing a meatball for an automatic homer. In real games every single bad pitch gets thrown down the middle of the plate and crushed, batters never foul them off or pop them up- bad breaking balls are hit out of the park 100% of the time.

I downloaded the demo and I was glad I did. I have to agree with you guys but the new pitching controls are awful. I was a big fan of the 06/07 games and the 08 game looked good until I played the demo.

did you not read anything about this game before you purchased it? i don't even like baseball but i know this game sucks ass from everything i've heard about it. also i believe there is a demo which probably woulda saved you $$ heh.

The recent patch didn't help much either. There is still some stutter, there are MORE graphic glitches (players with no bodies or white texture for faces) and I still can't take off the damn ticker. The visuals are not even close to the visuals in 2K7 and it just looks drab as hell. The rosters aren't even opening day either. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO UPDATE ROSTERS? I read that the rosters in The Show stay pretty consistent to the real thing. Is that true?

The sound is also the same as 2k7 with Miller and Morgan saying the same lines as before. The in game music (not the licensed crap) is the same and the stadium specific sounds and chants sound NOTHING like the real thing. Hey Kush and Blue Castle...its "Lets go Mets woooo!" at Shea Stadium not "Here we go mets...here we go!". Jeez..do some homework! The game has the same dull organ ballpark music and don't tell me they can't go to each stadium and record the stadium specific organs and sounds. They can but they won't. Terribly lazy effort when it comes to audio.

You also have to love that they used the same spring training 2006 (!!!) pics for the players. Bobby Abreu still has his Phillies pics, Moises Alou in a CUBS uni (WTF..not even Giants..CUBS!) and a freshly shaven Carlos Delgado who was clean shaven ONLY during 2006 spring training. LAZY

2kSports will not dupe me again.

I only have a 360 so I don't have much of a choice though I do plan on getting a PS3 when that Metal Gear Solid 4 pack in deal comes out. I'll get The Show when I get the PS3.

I dl'ed the 2k8 demo for the 360 and quickly dismissed it. Bought a PS3 for the blu-ray capabilities primarily, but really wanted MLB 08 The Show. So far, not disappointed by the game--I really enjoy the "Road to the Show" mode (just wish I could hit better). This is definitely a better game than MLB 2k8. Sorry to all those that spent money on 2k Sports offering. 🙁

Buying a ps3 isn't an option and shouldn't have to be. They've suckered me once, and never again. I hope everyone that says they're not going to buy another 2k game truly sticks to their word.

I bought 2K7 after playing that demo...aside from some of the minor bugs, which I could live with, was a major bug that wouldn't allow me to enter the playoffs after my 2nd or 3rd career season. 2K sports knew of the problem and had a bunch of hoops to jump through that didn't work reliably...they never fixed it. I'll never buy a game from them again.

I got 2K8 from GameFly and it's the buggiest game I've ever played on any console.

While from everything I've heard, MLB 2k8 is a really bad game, 2k sports has many great offerings. 2k football was superior to Madden until EA got the exclusive license. The NBA 2k series is very highly regarded and is just as good if not better than NBA Live. Good companies can make bad games (and bad series).

The only thing EA gets right is hockey; and that's on a bi-yearly basis.

The Show 08 is awesome, it has it's problems, but they're not as glaring as 2k8 (which could be better!).

EA doesn't make 2k8. 2kSports does.

i thought about getting this game until i read the reviews, then i picked up mlb 2k7 used from ebay instead for $15 with shipping. i'm definitely satisfied🙂
