A heart attack inducing win for the Mets! Alou with a clutch homer and Wagner almost freaking blew it! <sigh> I'm relieved and I can sleep easy tonight.

Tomorrow will be no easy task. Maine vs Hudson should be a good matchup but Hudson has been incredibly tough on the Mets.

attention mets fans...

keep a close eye on the rearview mirror as you are about to be overrun. the braves offensive slaughter has begun and opponents have been outscored 26-4 the past two games.

tex should start in cleanup starting tomorrow. this reminds me of the fred mcgriff trade that sparked the 93 run to the playoffs.

one week till the series at shea, see ya then

Well the Mets aren't playing as good as they should, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Braves do pass them, but you must on some crazy drugs if you think this years Braves team is even half as good as the 93 team.
93 was one of the greatest pitching teams in baseball history. the current Braves lineup could become one of the most solid hitting lineups. so yes i would say that this years team is as good as 93 but its apples to oranges.

i will give the mets lineup props since the team batting avg of the Mets and Braves are nearly identical.

The Braves lineup isn't even top 5 in baseball, let alone one of the most solid ever, which it seems you are implying.

braves lineup is second to the Phillies in the NL and they just added Texiera, so yes, i'd say it's one of the more solid lineups the braves have ever had.

Ah, you were just talking about the Braves history?

I'd still say that isn't true, though.

2003 Braves Lineup was better.

C Javy Lopez .328 BA, 43 HR, 109 RBI
1B Robert Fick .269 BA, 11 HR, 80 RBI (could've had David Ortiz for the same price that offseason instead the braves got Fick)
2B Marcus Giles .316 BA, 21 HR, 69 RBI
SS Rafael Furcal .292 BA, 15 HR, 61 RBI
3B Vinny Castilla .277 BA, 22 HR, 76 RBI
LF Chipper Jones .305 BA, 27 HR, 106 RBI
CF Andruw Jones .277 BA, 36 HR, 116 RBI
RF Gary Sheffield .330 BA, 39 HR, 132 RBI

God I'm fucking sick of seeing the Mets lose to the Braves. Same ol' shit every damn time. I don't give a shit that the Mets almost had a huge comeback in the 9th.. a loss is a loss and its gotten real old. Actually it got old in the late 90's.

The Mets won today but they are playing like utter shit. Lifeless, futile and downright embarrassing baseball. The garbage bin (bullpen) has been just that..garbage. Perez and Maine have crashed down to earth big time and the injuries continue to pile up with LoDuca on the DL and now backup catcher Castro may need time off (back pain..ouch). The team has none of the fire of last year's team and I wouldn't be surprised at all if they didn't win the division with their lackluster play.

Willie Randolph is a horrid in-game manager and even the announcers question his moves now more than ever. Also, some of the players either don't talk or will not talk to the media after games (LoDuca, Delgado..etc) and in today's game it was said by Gary Cohen that some players (who were unnamed) left during some games when their day was done. Unacceptable. Willie could be losing some of his players.

They still hang on to first place but thats really because the rest of the NL is trash but that could change soon (not the NL is trash part :p ).

I was hoping being humbled (yet again) by the Braves would give this team a kick up the rear, apaprently it did not have the desired affect :|

So is the garbage bin (bullpen) shitty or what?

Despite winning the series against the crappy Pirates the Mets pitching has been absolutely horrific all around. From starters to the pen. Maine and Perez have both been dreadful since the all star break. Lawrence is what he is so I can't crap on him. Even El Duque was awful against the Pirates but got by on pure guts.

Mota is terrible, Feliciano is not used at all and lost his sharpness, Schoenewies is also barely used, Sosa is going to get overworked by Dr. Wee Willie, Heilman melted down tonight..etc.

Things looking a bit better now after a good roadtrip (except THAT meltdown against pittsburgh)

4 1/2 game lead in division

Nice addition of Conine, we needed a RH bat off bench, plus he can backup Delgado at 1st.

Pedro looking good and should return soon.

The future looks bright :D

Well that was an exciting win no?? :D Nice job against Hoffman in the 9th. Think Castillo is now a fan favorite?? He's been outstanding so far. How 'bout Beltran?? On fire!

Maine and the pen..not so good but in the end the Mets win and I'm happy.

that sucked for me but oh well, we'll try it again with peavy tomorrow.

but congrats on the win, im still upset that we had the runners on the corner with 0 outs holding a 1-run lead and ended up with nothing. if the rest of the series is nail biters like today then i think im going to be completly gray up top by the time the weekend series starts with philadelphia.

Yet another bad start for Maine. What happened to his control? Hope he's not sulking over his All-Star snub.

I can't get mets games since I moved to CT (blacked out). Its been 2 years now and I think I've seen 3 regular season games all on ESPN and by some magic they didn't black it out. I'm having a relative order me MLB.TV for the rest of the year so I can watch the games. I used to watch about 75% of the games for the last 25 years and I can't stand it anymore. Does anyone else use MLB.TV? If so how is it?

hmm... where's the real raystorm ?

The wife and I were watching the ninth inning... she got more excited than I did when Beltran slapped it the other way. The guy is money right now.

Oh..I'm happy when they win but the second I see the garbage bin (bullpen) in action I get back to my annoyed and pessimistic self. God they stink!

That win last night reminded of the wins they had last year. They had very few like that this season. The only other win like this I remember was the one where Endy won the game with a drag bunt. That was exciting too.

Yea, he and Ollie have been pretty damn mediocre if not poor since the break. Ollie seems tired as his velocity is down (his last start he topped out at 91mph..way down!). He just needs a break when the rosters expand. Maine on the other hand is fine velocity wise so his arm is good so maybe its all mental with him. We all know Maine tends to lose focus once in awhile so its gotta be that. Also he gets two strikes on everyone but can't seem to put the hitter away. He doesn't have that high fastball either these days. Very troubling.

They track it by IP, the only way to get around that is to use a proxy. I am in New York and subscribes to MLB.tv just to watch the METS games, there's a blackout restriction so to bypass it, you would need a proxy.

Delgado had a horrible game as well all around and left...wait for it.. 7 men on base. <sigh> His last at bat was just futile. He pretty much threw his bat at the ball.

he just didnt look comfortable at all in his at-bats. if i had to venture a guess, id say conine will spell delgado tomorrow to give him a day to clear his head.

and i cant wait until the padres get out of new york. great city and all but these games are getting too close for comfort. i was going to be insanely pissed if the bullpen blew the effort that peavy gave today.

also congrats to reyes for setting the franchise record for stolen bases. and as a side note, congrats to my boy p-v for tying the padres strikeout record of 1,038 at the age of 26.

and im crossing my fingers that you guys sweep them.

think of the padres series this way... the phillies lost also so that gives us distance and for now keeps them out of the playoff picture. make you deal, you sweep dodgers and we sweep philly. :D

Man, pitching has sucked lately. Bullpen stinks, starters have been getting hit pretty hard, offence has come alive which is at least keeping games close.

Last month when pitching was good, we coudl not buy a hit to support them.

Will we ever pitch well and hit well at the same time??? October? ;) :D
