WTF, who gave him this BRILLIANT IDEA?

let's take one of the best left handed batters in the HISTORY of the game and let's bat him 2nd, ya THAT'S the ticket.

What's he thinking, oh ya it must "let's protect the lead off hitter so he gets more K's and fewer BB's. ya, that will really make our team more competitive".

"Let's put our weakest hitter in front of bonds so they will be less likely to walk him, ya THAT'S the ticket."

"hmmm, without Bonds i really don't have a legitamite slugger, no matter, he will be GREAT in the 2 hole".

"oh ya, this will be great, i can hit and run with Bonds".

WTF

i know, a lot of bonds haters is going to make this about Bonds not being a team player and all (for the record, bonds has come out saying he will not bat second). but i'm sorry this is not about bonds being a bad team player, this is about a bone head statement made by the manager.

I don't think you understand why he wanted him to bat 2nd. It wasn't really related to any of the reasons you listed.

Griffey Jr. was in the 2 hole at one point no ? Not comparing skills but comparing star players and their possible productivity in the batting order.

Jr did it when he had speed, Bonds also would have made a good 2 hitter early on in his career.

as to the comment above. i know what Alous reasoning was, it was stuipid.

Regardless of what you think of Alou's rationale for wanting him to hit second, it just once again shows how that ego-centric prick Bonds will not do what his manager asks of him.

Alou should say "STFU and bat second or you will be suspended until you learn that this is a team, not the Barry Bonds show".

and you would support batting manny ramirez 2?

how about we bat Pujols 2?

Nope, managers are not infallible and only a STUPID player would allow a manager to hurt his teams and his own chances of winning.

this is a flat out stupid move.

Well the difference between batting Ramirez and Pujols second and Bonds second is that the first two have a better supporting cast around them. Alou just wants Bonds to get more AB's and that's why he was pondering if he should bat Bonds second. Personally, I would just bat Bonds third.

a mathemetician back in the 60s proved that you'd win more games if your best batter batted 1st.

what good is it to for Bonds to get more AB if he has fewer runners to drive in?

If bonds bat 2nd the leadoff runner would NEVER get walks. meaning his OB % would drop.

If bonds bat 2nd, you would either have to do away with the Hit and Run OR you would Hit and Run with Bonds increasing his chances of making and out and decreasing the number of walks he got.

if bonds bat 2nd your #3 batter would no longer have protection and would get walked more.

are all those things REALLY worth getting perhaps 1 more AB ever 2nd or 3rd game?

only a moron would think so.

Hellooooo.. who is being paid to make the decision as to whether that's stupid or not? Bonds or Alou? I thought the manager was paid to make those decisions, and the players were paid to play the game? Guess I'm getting old or the game has really changed. Bottom line, I don't think it's smart to bat him second, but if that's where the manager wants to play him, he should STFU and do as he's told.

so you are always the good little soldier huh?

well guess what, baseball is NOT life and death and in BASEBALL unlike the army, players DO get to express their opinions.

in this case Bonds is right.

This is *exactly* why Bonds never has and never will win the series. He's an ahole and will not be a team player. Yes, if my boss tells me to do something at work (so long as it's within the parameters of my job description), I will either do it or get fired. Same for Bonds. Sure, he can express his opinion (free country), but he needs to do as he's told or be suspended. As a manager, you can't have one twerp, no matter how good he might be, take over your authority as the manager.......

That's what I was thinking he was thinking. Bump him up a couple places and you probably get him an extra 20 at bats a year....that's like 5 HRs ;) He's brilliant.
