I think it is stupid.

Since 1903, the World Series home-field advantage has alternated leagues.

If you are going to change it, then do it like EVERY OTHER league. Give the team with the better record in the regular season home-field advantage.

The players will never approve this.

Yeah, I don't think it will happen either, but it's still fun to ponder what the All Star game would be like if those were the stakes...

Something needs to be done for the other all-star games also (NFL, NBA), because no one really cares anymore.

I love the idea. Think how much better and more intense the all star game will be if it really matters who wins.

The NFL Pro Bowl garners zero interest from people because it is played after the season. It is what is best for the players. Also, it will never be a real football game, considering none of those guys are going try to hit each other.

The NHL was smart in making it the World vs. North America. It is a bragging rights thing. Plus I really enjoy the skills competiton.

The NBA all-star game rivals the NHL game in entertainment value, only because there in no defense played. It is actually FUN to watch.

no it wouldn't. by the all-star break you can rule out quite a few teams in the league. If you play for the Cubs do you really think you'll play harder to get the NL homefield, when you KNOW you aren't going to be in the WS anyway?

I think it is a really lame idea.

i don't think the majority of the players would care anyways. Most of their teams are already out of the playoff race by midseason.

There's no reason for this, other than to possibly save Bud Selig from being embarrassed by a tie again. As much as the alternating homefield sucks (and has cost better teams the World Series in the past), I don't see the use of an exhibition game at midseason to determine homefield as being any better.

If the game is so uninteresting to people that the ratings go down every year, and so boring for managers that they turn it into a Little League game where everybody has to play, maybe it should just go away.

Selig, maybe you should try ditching interleague play instead, then the novelty of seeing AL vs. NL might return.

this is a stupid idea. the only "all-star" games worth watching are hockey and basketball these days.

can you say GIMMICK!!!!

why not cut the 162 game season into one long playoffs? as hard as watching baseball is, i actually do sit down and watch the playoffs. (yup, my suggestion is just as dumb as Selig's but it's baseball, not too many people care)

I think they should just get rid of the whole AL/NL thing.

I agree, the season is too long. Too many teams w/ no chance of coming back just making it easier for the good teams to win. So, something off the top of my head, maybe have 4 periods of play for the 'season'. The bottom team in each division (AL East, Central, West / NL East, Central, West) at the end of the period is cut from the remainder of the season.

Then have some kind of an extended playoffs for the remainder of the teams.

The teams that are cut could play exhibition games against minor league teams the remainder of the season. The team with the worst record plays the whole next season in minor leagues. The players on the winningest minor leage team get to play in the majors the next season. :p

Other than scheduling nightmares (hey, I'm just jabbering.... haven't thought this through), I think this would be a fun concept. Of course it ruins the whole tradition of the game and all the stats, but, those are pretty meaningless these years anyway.
