LOL they really are concerned about the 5% tax increase? How about taxpayers stop accepting tax increases to fund their damn stadiums?

Winnar!

But yea poor poor millionaires need all the breaks they can get.

Actually, cities pay for stadiums in order to help their local economy. No stadium - no tourism, less city revenue.. less money for street repairs, less money for police, etc.

So instead of the knee jerk reaction to the "big bad corporate" stadiums, maybe people can think about how it affects the little guys that may rely on the revenues that are generated by the stadiums.

My friend majored in economics at Vanderbilt and took a class with a top sports economist. The professor said that usually building stadiums doesn't have a positive economic impact on a city.

Sports are a total rip off to the consumer. $8 beer, $6 hamburger, $100 tickets. People would be better of spending their money at local restaurants and buying furniture.

edit

$25 dollar parking pisses me off too.

And this is the reason I don't care a rats ass about "pro" leagues. I don't go to games, I don't by sport junk, and I am not stupid enough to waste money so some idiot can complain about a tax hike when they are making millions.

Dunno where you go, but when I go to a White Sox game I park about 3/4 miles away for free at a local bar. I pay about $15 for a burger and 3-4 beers, then I walk to the park and use my $20-40 tickets and maybe buy one $4 hot dog.

Not everyone has the same interests. I don't see these guys complaining about tax hikes but instead planning to account for them. If you were due to earn $10 million for whatever job you perform next year, you're talking about $500,000 more in taxes. It's certainly something to consider, which is exactly what the article says. If you didn't, then you'd be financially stupid.

Pretty much. If they beat the deadline, it's perfectly legal to do so. Next time they'll have to pay up.

As far as stadiums go, I think it would be best if no one paid a dime towards building one. Won't happen of course, but if it did the "private sector" would have to pay up. Players salaries would go down in all probability, but in a sense, they live in large part on welfare and get a big check as a result. Let them earn what they can, but I don't see the need for taxpayers to subsidize them.

I suppose the idea is that teams are perfectly capable of relocating out of your city/state, and with that goes $100 million a year worth of taxable revenue. Hence these governments have some sort of incentive to convince them to stay.

I hope the super wealthy do everything that they can to avoid paying these higher tax rates and as I said in another thread I really hope that the upper middle and middle class shoulder the burden of these tax increases.

Good for the agents and good luck to the people who may benefit from taking advantage of an opportunity like this.

City revenue, give me a freakin' break. That's a drop in the bucket.

have you lived in a city or near a city with a world class sports team? they are huge for the local economy, to suggest that only the players and the owners benefit is absolutely stupid...

Heck here near Gilette stadium they have built an entire shopping complex and that is just one small example...stadiums provide jobs and revinue.

I'd take Paul back, he had several injuries and played great at the end of the season.

Keep telling yourself that next year as you bow down to your divisional masters ...
