MkVI VW Golfs

Has there been any official word on when these will be available stateside? I live in the Phoenix area and really want to test drive one.

Too bad we're not getting the Sciroccos over here 🙁

They've been out for a few weeks now. Not sure if the TDI is here yet though, and that's really the only version I would look at.

Same here, assuming you can get the same benefits from an ECU flash as you could from the MkV's. Anyone know what the prices are on the different Golf models?

They're out, but if you want the TDI be prepared to wait and pay markup. The Jetta TDIs are still marked up 1.5k from sticker and sell off the truck. .

I believe pricing the MK6 is more/less the same as MK5

I don't think these things deserve the "MkVI" status since they're really just facelifted Mk Vs. Also, they're all over Europe when I went there a few weeks ago.

MKVI might be a bit much...but there were a lot of "underskin" changes that make these cars much more appealing to me:

1) VW put a lot of effort into reducing the number of parts/difficulty of assembling. Their main motivation for this was to make it cheaper to produce...but this has consumer benefits as well. This will usually increase reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
2) A lot of sites have mentioned that the ride and sound deadening have been sorted out nicely compared to the MKV
3) According to reviews, the interior trim has been improved significantly and gives cars like the A3 (its luxury sibling) a run for the money.

Sometimes "evolution" is a very good thing. Porsche has been perfecting this for years and has some of the best performing/most reliable cars out there. I prefer/support this metered approach to car improvement. It worked for the Ford Fusion...and I hope it works for this Golf as well. It allows the car companies to work on the details instead of "re-inventing the wheel" each time (although that really never happens...they seem to hit the parts bin on all new cars...but how much is new seems to determine a lot of how polished the final result is)

I really hope this type of car (2/4 door hatch) becomes more popular again in the general public's eye as it is extremely functional for such a small form factor/good gas mileage). The more popular it is, the more options I'll have the next time I look into buying a car. The Golf is very high on my list for the next car purchase (which I keep putting off).

I like the redesigned front fascia, but I think there needs to be a little more emphasis on mpg when it comes to the Golf/Rabbit. They need to bring over another TDI Golf/Rabbit and price it more around the low 20's and then advertise it like crazy. If they open the eyes of the consumer on clean diesels and take away the image of "dirty diesel" we'll be able to see more high mpg little cars. That's just my opinion, I really do like the Golf!

Agreed...a little like the Tourag (sp?), but I like the front end so much more than the previous model, that I'm willing to overlook my minor dislike for the tail. The front looks much wider and more planted. I realize it is visual trickery...but that is fine by me.

The MKV series has in general been pretty good. Aside for a few oddball things (DSG recall, Diverter valve for chipped GTIs) they are otherwise pretty solid.

I love the new interior design. I still need to bring mine in for the recall, but so far, runs pretty damn solid.

test drove a Mark VI GTI... loving it... getting pricey now though that they eliminated the Xenon lights... i might have to look at the TDI after all although it's probably going to be hard to get =[

Wait....what? They did? It wasn't listed as an option one the one I looked at earlier.

Edit: Oh wow....they did...thats lame indeed. Just wait a few months if you really want either of them. I was able to get mine for under invoice

yea so while MSRP is still the same, eliminating the xenon is now the same as raising the car price by $700. at the moment edmunds shows people buying @ MSRP. i didn't really try negotiating much because I'm still in the research stage, but I got sticker price. Lame. maybe ill just wait till next summer before the '11s come out.

That's cause it was released last month, itll sell for sticker for a few more months, just wait for demand to die down. I got my 2008 when the 2009s were rolling in, you might want to wait for that

You mean that they eliminated the Xenon's as standard...you can definitely get them as an option.

I don't know about that. A Malibu gives a lot more space with it's rear fold down than a GTI, and gets better gas mileage.

There is one crossroads though. Either you get better gas mileage than the GTI (22/33) and lose a little off the line (0-60/9.5) or you get a little worse in gas mileage (17/26) and beat the GTI by a little in speed (6.7).

Just seems like more car for the money, more space, better electronics (USB/Onstar/Bluetooth/XM, Bluetooth and XM cost an arm and a leg comparatively from VW), plus a more reliable car than a GTI going by VW's low reliability reports.

To top it all off, it is cheaper by a little on MSRP, and you can get a GM a lot farther below MSRP than you can a VW in my personal experience (I get the friends and family discount, they always have sales going as well, especially right now).

I don't know, I like VW's but they've never been the "smart buy" when it comes to bang for the buck.

the mk6 is just mk5 plus a little mk4.

the 4th gen cars were a fitting redesign that still evoked the older cars. the model line was a smooth progression, which the jellybean mk5 ruined. this fixes it a bit.
