MKV to Xvid converter?

I need to cut some of my MKV files down but I dont want to lose 5.1 audio. Is there any free easy to use programs out there so I can do this? I want to change them from 1080p to 720p if that matters.

Thanks for the help in advance, cant wait to see what you guys come up with 🙂

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have already tried that and dont know what I am doing wrong to get it to output in 5.1. It always downgrades it to ddplII

huh? you specify output as AC3(ffpmeg) and specify 640kbps, done. If your source is already AC3, then you select AC3 Pass-through.

Well I have tried handbrake and the quality sucks, but now thanks to you I got 5.1. How do I get the quality up so it doesnt look like poo? 😉

video quality constant quality, set it to under 20.

learn how to use the tool before you blame the tool 😛

Using the presets for an ipad it brings a 4gb mkv down to about 1.5gb. Quality looks excellent on the tablet but not the best on a big screen.

handbrake quality is whatever you want it to be, you can have it crank away for many hours preserving quality with advanced settings, you set it wrong is all. it has all the settings and same codec used to create the file you are probably playing with in the first place...you can make it look as nice as time will allow, it isn't one of those dumbed down programs with codec settings nerfed down to a lowest common denominator level.

xvid is um, obsolete.
