MKV and VLC Color Washout?

I ripped my Star Trek Bluray Movie and watched on laptop in the .mkv container from VLC. I thought something looked a little off like it was lighter and the colors looked not as vivid as i thought they would look.

I then pulled up the BluRay Disk in Powerdvd and playing directly from disk confirmed my thoughts as it was darker and more vivid.

Any idea's? Could it be a problem with VLC player?

I am basically going to move .mkv from my computer to a WDTV Live Plus box on my network

it think it's VLC player. Always looks more washed out compared to WMC. Try playing that same mkv with wmp

VLC has horrible picture quality compared to the competition. It's a mystery to me why people still use it. Try MPC-HC.
