Mixing Twinmos BH5 and CH5

Can anyone comment on this? I bought a 512 meg of PC3200 BH5 Twinmos/Winbond about 2 1/2 months ago and was planning on picking up another stick (especially now that the price is going up!) I see that both MemoryX and the guy on the amdmb.com forums only sell the CH5 stuff now. Will I run into problems running this stuff over 200mhz? Not necessarily looking to "shoot the moon" but would like to keep decent timings and hit maybe 205x11.

Yes, however I hear it's important to have the same chips in each stick when running a dual channel setup. How founded is this rumor?

Why don't you E-mail Memory-X and see if they still have any with the BH-5 chips? I'm sure they'd be glad to sell 'em if they do!

Beatle, out of curosity how high have your BH sticks overclocked?

And it shouldn't be a problem to mix and match steppings. Heck I'm using Corsair PC3200 with HyperX PC3000 in my nForce2 DC rig without a hitch :)

I emailed the guy @ amdmb to confirm this. I'll double check w/MemoryX, however it's been a while since they started selling CH5.

I had no problems running 200mhz @ 2-2-2-6 with my single stick of BH5. I hadn't overclocked it when I decided to mix it with some PC2100 to tide me over. :)

My CH-5 will boot upto 220mhz fsb @ 2.5/3/3/6. It can't even run at 200mhz fsb without getting memtest 86 errors however. =/

Yikes, that's not very reassuring. I'm not planning on taking the memory to the moon, but it should at LEAST run at default speeds. Who is it that said these chips were supposed to be good for overclocking? I think we need to get a posse together. ;)

One day gone by without a response from MemoryX. I'll try calling them tomorrow to see if I can get an answer.

anomaly: You have an Abit IC7\G, correct?

Lots of people are having problems with the 5:4 and 3:2 memory ratios with the CH5 sticks. I was one of them, so I bought Corsair sticks and everything is running fine now.

Well, they didn't respond to my email today either, so I gave them a call. After working through their menu I was able to talk to Spencer who was very knowledgeable about the situation. He said that it is important to run matching sticks. He also said people haven't been as happy with the CH5, but TwinMos is not making any more of the BH5. They've spoken with TwinMos about the issue, but TwinMos denies its quality is not as high with the new chips. He said matching sticks of CH5 shouldn't pose any problem running at its rated speed, but there were no guarantees when running mixed sticks. :(

So much gamble with CH5/Bh5, is worth it? Why not just get cosair XMS3200C2 for $100 per 512mb?

I already own a stick of BH5. I'd have to sell off my current stick and buy 2 sticks of something else. Anyone want to sell me a good 512 meg stick of BH5? :)
