Well, my question is pretty much outlined in the title and summary of this post, but to put it in another light/wording, here goes:

I'm looking to set up a RAID1/0 setup on my computer using drives some drives I have, as well as some I'll need to purchase. While they are all the same size (200GB) and same manufacturer (WD), should I go so far as matching the versions of SATA?

I can get the SATA1 drives to match with the SATA1 drives in my computer special ordered in by a computer parts provider in my area for little to no additional charge. (Meaning they'll charge me slightly less for the SATA1s compared to the new SATA2s.)

Should the version of SATA be matched?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

thats like mixing 10krpm scsi drives with 15krpm scsi drives.... it is completly possible but the array will only run at the speed of the slowest drive.

i have a compaq storageworks system with 12 drives, all 15k, but 1 is 10k... i EXPECT that drive to fail first because it is working at max while the 15k drives are not, with sata that shouldnt be a problem because the spindle speed is the same.

but make sure your controller will let you do that, use both types of drives.

Thanks. That's what I figured, but I thought it would be wiser to get confirmation before forking out for the extra drives.
