Mixing SATA and PATA hard drives?

Hi all

Are there any issues with using both SATA and PATA hard drives in the same system? Hearsay is that suppliers like Dell are not recommending it due to some "interference" issues.

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Nope, it'll work. I have two SATA hard drives and four PATA drives ( 2 hard drives, 2 opticals) in my system right now.

Lies! Liiieess! No but really, they wouldn't encorporate both controllers on motherboards if there were "interference issues".

No problems here, check my siggeh, 1 SATA (soon to be 2) and a couple IDE drives.

I boot from the IDE drive currently, when my new SATA drive shows up I'll be booting from one of the SATA's.

They do stuff like that once in a while... remember the usb ports on 760mp (or was it mpx) boards for athlon mp?

In this case though, it should work fine.

Yeah, that's true, but they weren't mass-produced. Nowadays almost any motherboard over $70 has both controllers.

i have 2 SATA raptors and 3 PATA drives and have never had a problem (although i do need to unplug the PATA drive while installing windows, or else it will default the PATA drive to the C: Drive, and i havent figured out how to fix that witout deleting partitions)
