mixing RAM

Trying to provide a ram upgrade, I have some Kingston ram designed for the Dell Optiplex GX1 (32mb dimm), and I tried to install it in a Optiplex GXi, and it won't recognize it. Dell's site says that both parity and nonparity ram can be used, and it is installed with the biggest module first. Also some generic ram I tried wouldn't work either. Any suggestions?

I woudln't be mixing parity and non-parity ram.
Even if they were compatible.

If both modules work individually, then you know what the problem is.
