Mixing RAM

Howdy,

Have a P4 PC that only has 256 megs of RAM in it. It has PC2700 memory.

The only RAM I have laying around is PC2100. Could I add a 128 stick of PC2100 to the existing RAM and get any performance boost running XP Pro?

Would the older stuff even work or would it just be a bad idea? I've ordered a 512 stick today but won't have it for a few days and was just looking for something to do in the meantime.

System is a Dell Dimensino 2400.

You can add the PC2100 ram. Your system will just run all the memory at the slower speed. 384 megs of ram will give more of a boost than is lost by a decrease in speed.
