Mixing RAM speeds

Can you mix PC2100 and PC2700 on the same board? I'm being asked to upgrade a dell and we aren't sure if it takes 2100 or 2700. Since prices are about the same on either, if I drop a faster 2700 in and it turns out the machine currently has 2100, will that cause problems or will the motherboard just fail to take advantage of the faster ram (again, not a problem because the prices seem to be so close)

if u drop a 2700 to a 2100 it should be fine but u can't take avatage of the faster ram

They will work fine together, I have pc2100 and pc3500 mixed together, running at pc2100 speeds
