mixing processors on a dual processor board. anyone try this?

I have an hp kayak workstation thats a p2 300. it supports 2 processors, but it currently only has one in it. I will have a spare HP p2 450 processor when I upgrade my computer in a few weeks.

I was wondering what would happen if I dropped the 450 chip into the kayak. The kayak only supports p2 300. any ideas?

On a related topic, my current computer is using an abit bx6(I think its bx6) motherboard. My friend tells me that it will support up to p3 700 slot1. But finding a cheap slot 1 is not that easy right now. What would happen if I thru in a slot 1 733?

Not a good idea, since they are probably different steppings. All sorts of strange things can go on if you mix processors of different steppings in an SMP system.

In this case, you probably have a Klamath P2-300 running at 2.8 volts, and a Deschutes P2-450 running at 2.0 volts. The motherboard probably won't be able to supply different voltages anwyay.

I believe that intel systems need identical CPUs - exactly the same MHz and stepping, so you couldn't do that.
