mixing memory

So I have 2x2Gb A-data DDR3-2000Mhz@1900Mhz 1.65V, and just ordered 1x4Gb Kingston HyperX Genesis DDR3-1866Mhz 1.65V.

I assume I will be able to run the memory together, but what will be the best way to fill the memory slots?

Youll be fine as long as the voltage and timings are same and both react well to it.

Looks like your voltage will be good for all sticks, your gonna have to go 1866 or lower and put voltage to 1.65 , but you might need more voltage since its more sticks... the timings make sure are something all sticks like and are within specs,,, gl

😳 Too bad you didn't ask what memory you should buy before you ordered.
We would have told you to buy a 4GB kit rather than a single 4GB DIMM.
To answer you configuration question... Install the two A-Data DIMMs in slots 2 and 4, the Kingston module in slot 1.

I have basically the same question here. I'm now using 4GB RAM, which are 1333MHz (XMP 1600MHz) and i guess 1.5V? Not sure here. However, i wanna buy 8GB (Kingston HyperX XMP 8GB (kit 2x 4GB) 1600MHz) which are 1.65.

Will there be a problem if i wanna plug all of those? Or should i only insert 8GB?

I just don't wanna spam forum for the same reason, if it matters, biostud, I'm sorry.

You can mix 2xnGB kits of RAM if you can find an overlap between the speed, timing and voltage specs for the two kits. As I recall, whenever this issue had come up in this forum before, "senior" members had recommended against mixing RAM -- especially if you were planning to over-clock it.

I have successfully done it, nevertheless, with different memory models (different speeds and timing-specs) of the same manufacture. Right now -- I use G.SKILL for everything. As long as two different kits can run at the same timings, speed and voltage -- it seems to be just fine.

But I cannot understand -- given memory prices -- why you would want to make a dual-channel configuration into a single-channel setup by only adding a single stick of RAM. Doesn't really make sense . . .

Ah, that's what I needed to know. Replaced the order with 2x2Gb sticks Corsair 1.65V 2000Mhz

So my memory arrived, and it was not so easy to get it to work.
First when installed the mboard just started to blink when turning on power (even before hitting the power button). So I had to troubleshoot a bit and first I could get it to boot with one stick, but as soon as I attached the other it would fail to boot, just freezing. So instead of doing a lot fine tuning I just lowered the memory divider to 8x so the memory runs @ 1520Mhz instead of 1900. It seems to be stable, so I'll leave it at that. Tomorrow I'm getting a GTX 670 so that's when the real fun begins 🙂
